Wokefield Park Golf Club Player Reports
Nick Barber (England) 17/09/07
Played here on a sunday deal with golf breaks in Sep 07. I was worried this was too open after reading the reports.
Completely surprised at the difficulty of the course. Nearly every hole was a dogleg or bunkers tightly placed on the fairway so you had to think about every drive.
Whilst this isn't a tree lined course it makes up for it in the placement of the bunkers and the degree of the rough. If you are not straight you will struggle to get round with a decent handicap score.
The greens were in pretty good condition for the time of year.
We had 16 golfers and ranging from 6 to 28 handicapers.
The hotel isnt the most cosy as it's geared up for conferences and feels like an office when you walk around.
Food is OK and rooms are OK.
The drinks are expensive so be warned if you have a large round!
For £85 including dinner, breakfast & 2 rounds this is a bargain and well worth playing.

Played in May 06. Course good condition, greens a bit bumpy/slow due to lack of rain/preparation time of year? but did not spoil the day. Nice layout, quite open, longish walk and course. Players will need a course guide. Played when the weather was nice and no wind. Due to it's openness and large bunkers and rough I would think it is very difficult on a windy day.
Played for free but compared to other courses played would say £40 ish at weekend is fair. Practice area and bar are excellent.

Played on a great value winter deal for 22.00,golf facilities a bit all over the place but I thought the course was ok,greens very good and I scored pretty well. This due to he fact you can hit driver on every hole and almost anywhere.
My guess is in the summer this could be a lot tougher when the rough grows up.
After the food was ok,ham egg and chips, service a little bit erratic and the complex is probably more geared to corporate groups than golfers, the bar was very very impersonal and badly designed and without any warmth.

Had a society weekend on 17th sept 2005 and everybody seemed to enjoy the course and general facilities. Whilst the course is quite open, especially when the rough has been cut down it still is interesting.
The pratice facilities are excellent and the food and rooms are also above average

Golf course is very open. The greens and fairways are in good condition, but the tees were a bit bare when we played. The par 5's are excellent but the par 3's are nearly all the same. The front 9 is more interesting than the back 9. We played 3 times (Sunday pm, Monday pm, and Tuesday am) and got held up on each occassion - it would seem to be a course that plays a bit slow.
Off course was adequate, but there is little atmosphere in the bar and dining areas, and the impression is that the place is geared towards company conferencing rather than people on golf breaks.
Overall an average venue and course with no major complaints, but nothing particularly special about the place.

This is without doubt the best 'value for money' golf course in the Southern Region. It has plenty to keep all happy lots of water, large bunkers in Driving Range, great par 3's...with the 8th being a real good looker with a big tiered green that is great for 3 putting....and a really friendly par 5 finish....All the staff are so nice, we could be in America, as most British courses are run by miseries this is a refreshing change....Come here you will not be disappointed.

This course only opened in the late 90's so is still obviously a very young course. However the greens are excellent and the course is a real challenge to all golfers. Nearly every green is protected with either large bunkers or water so you have to be accurate shooting at the greens.
Whilst the course is a bit open in places there are enough features to keep you interested. If you play Wokefield on a 2-1 voucher its a fantastic deal for playing a championship course.
The course usually plays tougher in the summer as they let the rough grow extremely long - avoid this stuff at all costs !!

Have just visited Wokefield Park with a group of 11 others. An excellent course with features to test even the best players in our group whose handicaps vary from 7 to 28. The course was in very good condition and the other facilities available, such as swimming and the sauna made our visit one to remember. The food was excellent, particularly the "eat all you want" breakfast. One minor moan, the course guide gave no indication of where the next tee was from each green and there are some considerable walks between holes. All in all a wothwhile experience.
David Watson (England) 17/03/03
Wokefield Park is a well laid out course with good sized and undulating greens, and water hazards, however, the course seems quite young and open and the tree saplings don't appear to have grown up much. This makes the numerous doglegged holes a lot easier to negotiate than they perhaps should be.
The 9th hole (par 4, 436 yds off the yellow tees) is an exception to the above, as it is a great dogleg right where you can either drive over the dog leg and over water to the fairway or play safe and go straight and leave yourself a long second shot to a raised green.
All in all a fair course with good practice facilities and friendly staff but quite open in places. Also nice touch on 9th tee - an intercom to the halfway hut for bacon sarnies etc..
Karl Baxter (UK) 04/07/02
This has become the traditional venue for the final event of our Golf Society season where we take advantage of the 'Sunday night special' which gives 36 holes of golf and dinner/B&B for £79.50 - good value. The course itself is interesting without being too difficult and is always well presented. There are some nice extra touches like the 'tree radio' adjacent to the 9th tee where you can order your mid-round snacks and a CCTV system to avoid queues on the 10th!Available on 2-FORE!-1 terms making it £15 on a weekday, this course is well worth a visit.
Daniel Hellmuth (Bekshire) 05/04/02
I have played here many times as a non-member it is a great course. The green staff do an amazing job, keeping the course up to a very hgh standard. I have applied to be a member and cannot wait to be accepted. This is a truly brilliant course.
Charles Gordon (UK) 19/03/02
I've only played here once and it probably wasn't the best day to make an accurate judgment on what seems like should be a very nice course. Unfortunately it was raining, blowing a gale and was freezing cold so it was hard work. However, only two holes were closed which was a considerable achievement in the storms that preceded and came during our round. Worth a look - I intend going back in brighter times!
