Okay played Falconwood yesterday expecting to shoot a comparatively low score.
However rough has changed from playing a few years back...its not high but go in it and your dead..1.Youll be lucky to find it..2.If you find it youll be lucky to get it out..
Course is good value ,looked great ,greens were in good nick..fast fast fast and small
Short course tru but rarely a flat lie..avoid that rough!!!!
Would echo previous comment regarding dress code.
England shirts and trainers seemed to abound in the few dodgy three balls i saw behind us and youngsters did seem to wonder on ,play a hole or two ,look for some balls in the rough and then wander off course again!!!
For what it is and the price you pay,you cant knock it too much

The best thing about Addington this year is the greens. They are first rate.
It's very good value for money and there are regular 2 for 1 offers. The downside (as said by a previous contributor) is the lack of marshalling. This is odd as there used to be a starter at least.
Beware of groups who clearly haven't paid sneaking on at the 9th and even 1 balls who suddenly pop up ahead of you. If Crown Golf can sort this out it'll cut down the overcrowding which is the only downside to the course.

Generally it does take a while to get round Addington Court. It's cheap, they'll let anyone on and they basically have no dress code so you'll get all the local hackers. The club could definitely do more to educate people about slow play and normal golfing etiquette re waiving people through etc. but we all started somewhere.
Let's be honest, it is short, but it's basically a decent track in surprisingly good nick given the traffic. It's been around for a while now so the trees are mature and there are some tight holes. A lot of the bunkering is redundant if you hit it decent distance but there's definitely enough to get you thinking and there aren't many flat spots on the course. Play well and you'll be rewarded but if you don't hit it straight you can run up some significant scores so don't count it out on length.
Lastly, we played there yesterday and got lucky, the hackers' 3-ball that should have been in front of us let us tee off before them on the 1st and we got a totally clear round - all done in a little over 3.5 hours. Thoroughly enjoyable, despite the rain. But then we're back to where we started with the club doing more to educate people about golfing ettiquette. A couple of course marshalls would go a long way...

Played today on the Championship course and was pleasantly surprised. I played in February and to be honest it was awful, all temporary tees and greens, scuffed greens etc etc.
Today all greens were in use and in very good condition. The course was quite, and even the bukers all had rakes nearby. Whether they can keep this up I don't know but i will be back to try again. Hopefully in better weather!

have just recently become a member and since joining i have never played a round where all the greens were in play today 15th mar 07 there were 3 temp greens the other greens were awfull.play is usually very slow with a total lack of etiqutte in allowing poeple to play through i would recommend the club use marshalls to speed things up.there was a compitition today so we decided to play the nine hole course first after finnishing this round we went to the bar to get some lunch only to be told the kitchen staff were playing in the comp and we had to settle for a second class sandwich which had been made some time earlier the course is short (evan shorter with temp greens ) but given the right management and alterations to the course this could become a very very nice track

Have played the Falconwood course twice over the last week (first visit for over a year). Ex value at £9.99 after 2pm.
A lot of changes have been made. Seem to have problems getting people on the course. The main course was empty too. Bit of a strange atmosphere.
Still not bad value for money for a public course. However, marshalls are required to hurry people up or inform them about etiquette ( I was in a 2 ball stuck behind a 3 ball, using buggies, causing a 4 ball to catch us up!).

Played here during the current hot spell. I expected the course to be bone dry and the greens like concrete, but I was pleasently suprised. Most of the fairways had a decent covering of grass and the greens were quite reasonable. The course is quite pleasent but not very taxing, its very short.
The green fee of £15.00 was good for this public course. The clubhouse from the outside looks quite decent but inside it is not so inviting.
Will return in years to come, but it might be a few years yet.

I played the Falconwood Course today and I will not be returning.
Reasons:
I did not see a single rake by any of the bunkers.
Examples of vandalism on some holes. Much of the 9th green is unusable due to ripped turf or what looks like an attack with a pickaxe. The 13th green was also damaged.
Gangs of kids patrolling the wooded areas, the burnt-out car by the 13th green could be the reason for the heavy vandalism in that area.
Many players in jeans and t-shirts, a couple seen playing in trainers.

I have played this course 4 times now and I have to say that it is a good course for begineers. My first round here was 113 and now I am down to 99.
I would definatley recommend this for beginners.

I have played this course on two occasions and would thoroughly recommend for beginners. One negative point to note with this place is that things can move very slowly, 5 1/2 hours for a round is far too slow for me. The last time we played here there was a competition underway with three groups of 4 playing in front of us. This caused a huge bottle-neck with 4 groups continually waiting. In my opinion they shouldn't open the course up to the public during a competition when it's always going to be very slow. A shame, because overall the course is very good but I won't be returning.
Edward Block (England) 08/06/05
This is a really good course for beginners like myself with the wide fairways, but also challenging enough with a few long holes to get the driver out of the bag.
Being a beginner I scored my best round here last month, getting round in 130. I've been at this level for a few years now so I think I'll stick with this course until I improve.

I have been playing the Falconwood 18 hole course regularly at the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2005. I enjoy it more every time i go and it has helped me bring my score down from a shocking 125 to 95. Never been held up early saturday mornings or friday afternoons. Being only 17 i look forward to a long time playing golf on this great course.
Craig Scott (England) 18/08/04
Have played the Falconwood course three times over the last month and found the course ideal for high handicappers. Course is quite forgiving. Despite kids "invading" the course, have enjoyed playing the course and will continue to do so in the future.
Sam Thornton (England) 15/08/04
Played on a sunny Saturday morning in August, I found the Falconwood course to be challenging enough for a beginner like me without being too easy or impossibly hard. Wide fairways and the lack of water meant I only came away 1 ball down.
The general condition of the course was fine. My only niggles are:
- the poor layout. Without a map of any description and almost non-existant signage it was a challenge just finding the next tee at times.
- the bunkers were filled with awful sand
- there are a number of tees from which the pin isn't visible and there are no other markers to tell you where you need to be aiming.
That said, for £18.50 I would probably go back again.
Kee Law (England) 01/08/04
I have played on this course 2 times now and as I beginner I found it to be very accomdoating, if somewhat challenging.
Turning up they have a good value driving range (£3 for 60 balls) which is good for warming up prior to the round.
The greens are generally in good nick, though the tee off areas are often sloped and there is a lack of maps to guide you around the course.
I went on weekdays around midday and it was pretty quiet, really nice not to have to wait around too much.
Friendly staff (guy who broughts drinks over to us was a life saver), challenging holes, not too busy, good facilities. Suited me as a beginner, defo will go back again.
Grant Brown (England) 09/07/04
I have played the Championship Course probably over 30 times since 1999. This is where I can back to golf after not really getting going as a teenager, so this course holds some fond memories for me, such as my first birdie, lowest round score etc etc.
I have moved on golf wise, but after a recent visit (trip down memory lane) I can say that the course is just as I remembered it, with one or two improvements as well (some of the Tee boxes have been improved etc). I expected to 'Kick its Butt', having developed in my game since my last visit, but in reality it kicked mine, with the tight fairways, left to right runaways, and well guarded greens in most cases. If you can take the waiting at certain holes (8th, 10th and 14th,) then you will enjoy the round, providing you dont get caught behind the local hackers. Still, weve all been there, and they have to learn at some time, as im sure i did on this course a few years back!
Joe Harley (England) 05/07/04
Played the Falconwood course on Sunday 04/07/04. Having had a very poor experience here some 4 years ago I was not sure what to expect on my return, but was pleasantly surprised - with the exception of one ill-mannered 5-ball(!) The greens are small, but putted very well. Fairways and tees in reasonable nick too. £18 for a Sunday morning round seems to be the norm around these parts, and although the course is short and well suited to the mid/high handicapper, it just about lives up to the green fee.
Graham Hill (England) 04/05/04
Played the Falconwood mid week on a twighlight. I would echo some of the comments below. Highly recommended as a great course for beginners and high handicaps. Low handicaps should murder this course. There's plenty of space, no water and only a couple of par 4's where I needed anything more than a 8 iron. You would do very well to lose a ball around here. The greens, tees and fairways were all in good condition. Main criticism is the bunkers which all had bad quality sand and there was not a rake in sight. As also mentioned below I would avoid at peak times. I've been to the driving range a couple of times at the weekend and the course is packed.
PAUL BARLOW (england) 01/04/03
I was member for twenty plus years, and the old course
was beutifully kept in the 1970's and 80's.
Then came the arrival of money men, who frankly could'nt
give a stuff about club members or there course or the clubhouse with all its golfing history.
A course opened by the great JH Taylor in 1932 is now in terrible condition and now has a clubhouse which resembles
a burger bar.Still worth a visit for cheap golf.
Darran Nicholson (England) 26/03/03
I have played both courses.Falconwood is excellent for beginners, but better players will find it abit of pitch and putt course. The Old course on the otherhand is a good course,in its day you can tell it was a great course however
I found the course has suffered from being a public course for too long(bunkers are not raked, greens are littered with pitch marks). I feel quite passionately that if this course was changed to a private club for members this would be a great course which is beautifully designed, many holes are tree lined so accuracy is a must!,at the moment a game during the week is well worth it costing around £8 but I would avoid weekends, it is very very busy and unfortunately at the moment the course is just not worth it.
Ben (England) 09/09/02
Played on 8th Sept 2002. Four hour round but seemed slower because of delays on Tees. Course in good condition but crowded. We paid £19.60 but a delay on the first tee meant we should have paid £9.50 (as it went into Twilight)which would be great value.
Martin Fox (UK) 04/07/02
Played the so-called 'Championship' course in June and although the course was in good condition .. I WILL NEVER PLAY HERE AGAIN ! Well, certainly not at the weekend anyway. 5 hours to play a 5,100yrd course for God's sake ! Why does this club let complete beginners on their main course when there is a perfectly good 9-hole next door and another 18-hole across the road ? Not to be recommended to anybody except very high handicappers, unless this ridiculous policy is reviewed. Shame ... but there you go.
R Gaskell (England) 23/04/02
Played Falconwood 21/04/01.Course in decent condition but playing woefully slow. Took us 3 hours to play 9 holes, course full of "golfers" with england tops/tatoos/no idea of rules. Waited nearly half an hour on one hole.If you do fancy a game of golf that doesn't take all day, play here at your peril. Never going back.
Andy Hipkiss (UK) 24/08/01
I have been played Addington Court about 7 times now and have found it to be a very good, well managed course. The opening hole is an annoying Par 5 which has ruined my card twice before the round has even started!
Fairways and greens are in good condition however they have had problems with the green on the courses hardest and best hole the 7th, as a result you may find the temporary green in use, even in the summer.
Well worth the trip and the best of the courses in the Addington area.
M Walsh (UK) 03/05/00
The Old Course is a great little course the only problem is that if you are a fairly big hitter you can leave your 3 to 6 irons at home. The greens and tees are usually in
very good condition it's just a shame that there is not really any room to push the tees back another 40 or 50 yards per hole.
(UK) 03/06/98
This site is out of date.
Green fees for the old course are œ13-60, and G Cotton no longer runs the course . I beleieve it is run by American Golf, who are currently carrying out major improvements to the course.
