Quite an enjoyable track. It's a fairly short parkland course, but it does demand a fair bit of accuracy. It does have a very claustrophobic feel in areas and you can feel as if you are tripping over other golfers at times. However, it has made good use of some very established parkland and not many courses start and end with a par 3!
There is good use of the Ouse as a beautiful backdrop and some challenging use of a little stream. The 14th is a gorgeous par 5 with a links feel on the 1st shot and a very challenging 2nd if you want to go for the green. The 17th has a wonderfully imposing tee shot but the signature hole is clearly the par 3 18th. As pretty a par 3 as I have seen in this country - and not that difficult either!
All in all, a gentle challenge (although not if you're wayward) with some bland holes and a couple of lovely ones.
The only practise facility available was the putting green. However, there was a practise bunker/short game area and what looked like the makings of a range but neither of these was open for use yet - apparently.
Used a 241 voucher but only got the £40 w/e rate despite playing after noon, when it is advertised at £30. Seemed a little dubious to claim that as a 'special rate' to me.

Played midweek following the awful weather we've been suffering lately.
Got to the course to find holes 6-10 closed. Unfortunately, these seem to be 5 of the better and more challenging holes according to others attending.
In terms of what I played, I would say it was a little bland, certainly in the early parts of the round. A couple of holes are quite challenging later on, made to play longer by the very wet conditions underfoot. The greens were in pretty good condition considering.
Bearing in mind that we were told to play holes 1-3 and 17 and 18 at the end of our round to play an "18", I have to say little was then done by the Club to actually accomodate this happening. The locals were far from friendly or helpful in letting us complete the round as we had been told to do so at outset.
Another visit at a later date may be an option, just to play the better holes we missed.

Played here a few weeks ago, i have to agree with the previous comment, as its not a particularly memorable course, quite plain really. Its like your playing 2 very different 9 hole courses though, as around the hotel its very tight, but when you cross the road and head out over the river it really opens up. I suspect this part of the course was maybe added later at some stage? There are a couple of decent holes on the course and if i had to pick a favourite one, then it'd be the 14th, its a good test.

The drive from Leeds looked ominous with a steady drizzle and limited visibility, not what you want for an enjoyable round in February. Fortunately, by the time we teed off, some 10 minutes early the gods had relented.
A work colleague, a member, inferred this was a short but very tight course. Some holes were, notably the last 3, but the parkland nature was reasonably forgiving to our wayward driving tendencies. Overall it was enjoyable although there weren't many outstanding holes, the par 5 10th over a lake and the next par 5 14th along the river being the pick.
What was really enjoyable was not being pushed or held up at any point in the round, something different for a mid morning Sunday.
Only let down was the inability to get any chip butty's afterwards despite an all day menu advertised on the tables. The waiter inferred the chef had gone home although there was a stream of meals coming out!

Impressive, peaceful hotel complex in the middle of nowhere. This course is right up there with Rudding Park as the best new courses in Yorkshire. Excellent infrastructure and attentive staff as you would expect from a hotel course. The course itself is pleasant to look at and to play, it starts and finishes in mature woodland around the hotel, the middle section heads out around and over the river into parkland with a more open feel. I played this course in late winter after a nasty bout of weather, so the condition wasn't A1, but the potential is there. With proper care and attention this will mature into a truly first class course. You could do a lot worse than book a golfing weekend here - 8/10
