Allerton Park Golf Club. An absolute gem of a coarse, hidden away in beautiful parkland that is starling contrast to it's surrounding urban area. The first four holes are a tad flat and dull, but once onto the fifth it opens up into a golf environment that could leave many private courses looking like a farmers field.
The greens are in fantastic condition not just by municipal standards, but by any standards, and are a real credit to the greens keepers. And for about nine quid (five at twilight) you get all the benefits of a privet coarse, and you don't end up wearing stupid trousers, drinking in wine bars, or playing squash on a Tuesday with someone called Jeremy. Bonus..

Allerton is the one course that every golfer in Liverpool know's and appreciates. It's a fine course wirth some great holes to boot.
Being municpal it tends to get busy, especially on weekends. In the old days players would have to get there early and put a ball in the 'trough' however nowadays a booking system operates from the pro shop.
On arrival at the course you'll find a clubhouse with a small pro shop which stocks some decent equipment.
There are two courses at Allerton, a 9 hole and 18, the 9 measuring in the region of 1800 yards. The 18 is relatively short, measuring 5494 yards with a par of 67. The course is a classic parkland affair with not one hole the same.
Holes to look out for -
3rd - Long par 4 at 461 yards, the fairway is very narrow with out of bounds to the left all the way. A well placed fairway bunker will swallow many a ball. The green is protected with 2 bunkers.
8th - Great par 3 over a valley, the green must be found to have any chance at birdie. Protected by four bunkers.
14th - Narrow yet short par 4 were a drive over the trees to the right favouring an easier approach shot. The green is two tiered and well protected, with out of bounds to the left.
There are no par 5's on the course, the third being the longest.
The facilities include a putting green and chipping area, with the 9 hole course being a form of practise as it's quite short. There is also a cracking butty van after the 8th hole on the 18 hole course, providing refreshments.
The downside to Allerton is the fact that its so busy - on some occasions there have been 2 groups on each tee for the first couple of holes. If you can get a game on a weekday your in for a treat.

Nice course! Nice day out for you and your mates for a game of golf. A testing course with some adventurous holes. Sadly no par 5's but the other holes make up for that. This course tests the short game as the greens are tough and plenty of bunkers around. This is not an easy course and not a real beast of a course. Course is a god value for money an excellent day's golf at the price. Overall I love this course and I play here most weeks and I love it would reccomend to players looking for a challenging course...!

i play allerton 2 or 3 times a week.It it a nice course but is quite short after the first 3 holes excepted the par 3 9th and par 3 18th both holes over 230y.The most disappointing thing is the fact there are no par 5s.So no easy birdies out there.

Well I have played it a few times , however it is vastly overcrowded and takes forever to play due to par 3s being back to back. On the other hand its a generally decent course but some improvements are required around the booking and tee off system as this can be costly in a time factor sense.
