Arrowe Park Golf Course Player Reports

Mike Murray (England) 08/06/07

I've been fortuante enough to play Arrowe Park on numerous occassions and have always found it to be a worthy test of golf in pleasant surroundings.

The clubhouse is welcoming - there's a cafe inside serving a variety of food (the sausage butty is recommnded). There's also a pro shop which is one of the better of the muni's I've played.

The course has a large putting green in front of the clubhouse, to which the first tee is situated. The first is a fairly simple hole, however out of bounds lies to the left so anything hooked off the tee will be costly.

Holes to look out for -

3rd - Narrow medium length par 4, the ball must be kept straigt to avoid racking up highscores. The green is one of the more difficult on the course to negotiate.

12th - Narrow par 5 were good judegment is a must to have a chance at birdie. Long hitters can get there in two with ease however tee shots must avoid two sets of woodland on both sides of the fairway.

The course has always been in good condition each time I've played, the only criticism is that, like all muni's, it can get busy at times, especially weekends & bank holidays.

I've yet to visit the clubhouse but for thirsty players there is a pub adjacent to the car park which serves a decent pint.

I can recoomend Arrowe as one of the more accessible and welcoming courses on the Wirral.

Phil Derry (played Arrow Park 24/04/07) an excellent course for the 'improving golfer'. I've played the course several times and find it fantastic value, and the course is very well maintained. A good challenge for the beginner and certainley a course that you feel eager to try time and time again. Wide fairways encourage you to go for it off the tee and a fairly flat course proves very playable. The large practise green also provides a good incentive to turn 15 minutes early!! One of the Wirrals excellent courses.

The golf course is a good test of golfing knowledge for the moderate player. It plays well in any type of weather though I find that there are problems with slow play and people tending to "jump in" when they haven't bothered paying.

Life on a Municipal I suppose. Well worth a try, but with so many other good Golf Clubs around this is perhaps one to try if you are a "bit skint".

I've given a value for money as five as the slow play is a real killer.

I've been playing Arrowe for a number of years and I never get fed up (despite some rotten scores!) Just come back from bad injury to play again, and had forgotten what a lovely course it is. Beautiful trees give the course a real character.

If you think it is straightforward off the yellow tees, cast an eye to the position of the white tees - gives the course a completely different complexion!

The Golf Club itself must contain the friendliest members of any club in Britain! You are never left on your own in the clubhouse - always someone to chat to.

This tree lined course is probably the most beautiful Municipal golf course in the country, and as level as a snooker table.

Not the most difficult course either at 5841 yards for a 70 par. I have played it for over 20 years, and I never get tired of it.

Additionally there is a a superb ground staff to look after the course, and maintain it to a high standard, despite the heavy traffic.

The course is very well supported by a well stocked Golf shop and our helpful Professional, Colin Disbury
