Bamburgh Castle Golf Club Player Reports

Bamburgh demands to be played, both for the quality of the course and its stunning location. Its relatively short but by no means easy: as other reviewers have noted it has several (perhaps too many) blind holes, while the rough and heather will eat anything wayward or simply topped. There are several stand-out holes. The first requires you to avoid a push or slice from the tee, as the cliffs fall away quickly to the beach. The eighth is the famous 'Island' hole, which has much of the green hidden from sight behind rocks. My favourite is probably the 17th, a 240-yard downhill par 4 which offers a good chance of reaching the green, even for moderate hitters, but which requires you to avoid the stone-walled out of bounds all the way down the right. But even if you are playing terribly, you can't fail to be moved by the views - miles and miles in all directions, with Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Lindisfarne castles all visible. You have to feel sorry for the earlier reviewer who played on a foggy day.

Played with a group in September 05. previous day had played at Foxton Hall in shirt sleeves but at Bamburgh needed oilskins and woolly jumpers as it "persisted it down" throughout the round.
Having said that the course was tremendous and provided a very different type of challenge from a lot of courses where "crash and bash" is the order of the day. The blind holes were a real joy and the greens were very smooth given the conditions. Would have no hesitation in going back.

Excellent Course. Exceptional views.
Plenty of 'blind' holes so buy a stroke saver or play with a local!. Not one to attempt without either.

The course might be average. I would not know. I went round like a child with a knew toy and big saucer-like eyes! The total experience is truly mindblowing and irrespective of layout this is a great golfing experience. Very friendly and welcoming.

What a wonderful course. The semi blind par 3's are quirky and really good fun. It's a mystery tour on some holes but worth all the effort. The views are worth the trip on their own. Go and play it as soon as you can.

What a cracker of a course, fantastic views, great holes, a real thinkers course. Friendly staff. Well worth the effort of playing it.
