Great course, which is a reasonable test for all standards. If you hit straight scoring can be a breeze ... but beware if the wind gets up can become a challenge.
Beauty and the beast with some stunning views over to the Peak District, a hole that runs along side the oldest abbey in Sheffield.
Fairways have various degrees of slopes and certainly challenge your stances.
As municipals go, certainly the best in Sheffield, and up there with a few of the private courses too.
Clubhouse is basic and needs a bit of work on it, but despite that it sort of fits with the ambience of the course.
Well stocked and helpful pro shop.

This is the course i learned the good game on. After an abcense of 4 yrs i was looking forward to playing it again and in all honesty i felt a little let down.
Here we are two days away from June and they had three temp greens on. To make things worse, the 13th does have a properly built up temporary green and even that wasn't in use. The flag was simply stuck in the fairway some hundred yards short of the green. So, was this still a par 4 ? who knows...... makes working out your stableford points a little difficult.
Not impressed.
PAUL LALLY (England) 24/04/06
A course which justifies the description of golf as "a good walk ruined". Wonderfully scenic, beautiful trees, a stream and a lake---and not worth playing for 8 months of the year! At most times there is an abundance of "temporary" greens (ELEVEN the last time I played a round here!) which resemble nothing more than cabbage patches. Most players have one putt, then pick the ball up.
Even in periods of dry weather, "temps" abound.
The playing public is being shabbily treated here.
A recent brief visit revealed that the pro shop is being refurbished. Fine, but how about spending some money on care of the course and giving players value for money?

this course is absoloutely fantastic and it is definately value for money. this course has been improved since last year with better cut greens and fairways. many oppourtunities for birdies and also a challenging par 3 over the lake. beautiful scenaries. its a must
