Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club Player Reports
Chris Amass (England) 19/05/08
Our small society played Lanhydrock in May 2008 as part of a annual trip to the West Country. We have played it several times before, although missed it in 2007. On arrival, it was evident that a lot of money had been spent on the clubhouse, which now appears to have been extended to include a hotel. The reception area is the size of a ballroom, with the smallish pro-shop off to one side. The staff in the pro shop were helpful and informative, both in person, and when making our reservation some three months earlier. We were nervous about the course, having been told that the greens had been left ridiculously long. Happily this proved not to be the case, although they were by far the slowest of the 5 courses we played during the week. Holes are nicely laid out, and there was only a first cut of rough (no really long stuff). There are four holes where water has to be crossed, and a couple more that had ditches which I suspect would contain water following rain. On the downside, there was a fourball who appeared to be hacking their way down the first as we hit the turn, dressed in what appeared to be anoraks. Lunch was also a strange affair, and the attitude of some of the bar/restaurant staff left something to be desired. On the basis of this, it is unlikely that we will return to Lanhydrock, a shame given the friendliness of the pro shop.

Played this course in early july and it was a pleasant round nothing great but nothing bad either just nice.
The club house needs to be more cozy as it feels like it's not loved
Food was good so overal not a bad place to visit.

Lovely course with some very challenging holes.
We played the course in 2003, had a time time booked for 4.30pm and eventually teed off at 6.00pm due to slow play encountered from a corporate event which, the club informed us,had started in the late morning, we couldn't finish the last two holes due to failing light and the play in front.
If you intend to play it check to make sure there are no events out in front of you.

A nice course that was recommended to our Society. On the 2 occasions we have played there it has been in good condition and all seem to enjoy playing the course. We didn't feel as 'welcome' on our last visit but the food was as good as ever.

As an exile now residing in Cheshire with some very good courses to hand, I recently had the pleasure to play Lanhydrock for the first time. I can honestly say that, where I would normally walk of a course wanting to take one or two holes home with me, I wanted to take sixteen of Lanhydrocks holes away. (we had to miss 15 & 16 because of failing light).
I look forward to another visit home so that I can be invited back again, so thanks Jim and I am looking forward to our next round.

Lanhydrock is a lovely place to spend a long weekend. A group of friends (sometimes as many as 12) have stayed at the lodge on the first tee and have found it to be ideal. Just step out of the front door and you are ready to tee off!! Great food, a warm welcome and very good value for money. We stayed for long weekends in September for about five years on the trot, the only reason we don't go there now is the travelling involved but would still highly recommend it. The course is always in excellent condition, and while I would agree that it is not the longest course around, dont you get a little fed up with hitting career best drives and still have to collar a full blooded four iron to get to a green?? Tight in places, you have to be fairly straight off the tee, and plenty of water to keep you amused. If you are looking for a weekend away with some mates, give them a call, myself and all of my friends would higly recommend it....you wont be disappointed.
