Brandon Wood Golf Course Player Reports
Elliott Shaw (England) 06/09/07
I am 15 years old and this is by far the most difficult course i have played on. And i have played on 17! This was the place of my first ever round back in March 2006. And since then the course has grew on me. I was dreadful on my first round, but the main thing is, i enjoyed it. Since then i have managed to get my score down to 97 (52 out 45 in) On that round i managed to par the 4th,5th,13th,14th,16th,18th and birdie the 7th. I was well pleased!! I have been to Brandon 20 times now and it is such a nice course to play on. The 1st is THE hardest hole you can possibly start with, the 2nd is quite difficult too. I think though that the hardest hole on the course is either the 9th (a 420 yard par 4) or the 1st which is a 499 yard par 5. The scenery is just astounding though. I would definitley recommend anyone to play on this course. Fantastic!!

Played the course for the first time just recently. What a great layout and despite the heavy traffic that it gets the course and particularly the greens were in excellent condition.
Some tough holes and if you walk off with a par 5 on the first you should be grateful. The course is quite picturesque in places and it's quite isolated and peaceful.
A delight to play.

this golf course is a good value for money course when its not wet or in winter.
the course in places become unplayable due to the fact its built on flood plain type land and it holds the water.
some very well designed hole both long and short, enough to challenge most players ( well it beats me more often than not, 84 my average ).
You dont need to be a long hitter to work a fair score hear.
the greens and fairways are just above average for a muni when cut and dry.
there is a driving range, practise bunkers and putting green to get you swing going.
the club house is nice enough inside with an okish price as long as its open.
worth a play at least once you might like it.

I first started to play Brandon Woods back in the mid 70's (when the trees were a lot shorter!). I've always loved the course. Great layout.
Having moved home in the late 80's I hadn't been back in years but have recently returned. The trees have grown !!!!!! With this and the combination of length and doglegs; if you can play to your handicap at Brandon you are playing good golf.
Yes, the fairways can and do hold the water when the weather is poor but when the sun is shining there are not many courses that I'd rather be playing on, and I do play a lot of different courses, in and around the Midlands.
One moan. It is a bit frustrating to find the club house closed if you finish around 7.30 of an evening.

This is a very enjoyable and course most of the holes are blind and carful thought has to be given as to where you would like to place the ball, with plenty of oportunity to wandering into the wooded areas. The fireways are fantastic and the greens in good condition. However I have been told it can get rather wet in the Winter not experienced this yet. There is a driving range with putting area.

As a keen golfer I look forward to playing Brandon. It is a well defined coarse and can only get better. On playing it recentley I noticed how goog a condition it is in,the greens are fantastic and the fairways are well defined thanks to the grounds staff.
Can't wait till the weekend.

having played this course 3 times now i feel that this is by far the best municipal course in the west midlands.the fairways are exceptional and the greens really challenging.i have played some of the best courses in the midlands, but except for the forest of arden, this has to be second best, give it a try.you wont regret it.

I have played brandon three times in the last three weeks and must say i am impressed. It is now December and the greens are absolutely immaculate the fairways are a bit too soggy but that is expected this time of the year. well worth a round. I am now seriously considering becoming a member.
Aaron Leathley (England) 27/08/04
Potentially this could be a really interesting and challenging municipal course, a good length, plenty of dog legs and decent greens.
Have played three times this year (...I live in Leeds...) and each time think it will be better next time. However, each time I am disappointed. It is clearly suffering from drainage problems as the course has been soaking wet everytime. In addition the fairway grass on many holes has been far too long and those recently cut have dead grass lying in great swathes. If the course was not long enough already you virtually get no roll of the ball.
Perhaps I have been unlucky with the weather and am being a bit harsh on a municipal low cost course, but I do wonder how enjoyable it could be if maintained to a higher standard.

One of the best public course in the country in my opinion, great greens and some very tricky holes, well worth a visit.
c.p. (england) 14/04/02
A great course with in my opinion some of the best greens in the west midlands only paralleled by tamworth and the belfry. Quite a few doglegs left and right which can be stiff at times but well worth a round.
