Bunsay Downs Golf Club Player Reports

As a member, I play this course regularly and, despite the winter conditions, I'm pleased to pass on that, although there has been the occasional ban on trolleys, players have not had to play off the dreaded mats at all, and the fairways and greens are in good condition.
Congratulations and thanks to all the Greenstaff!
Robin Hirst (England) 13/08/04
this is one of the best nine hole courses in essex. great value and friendly, the 8th hole is as good a par 4 anywhere in essex.

I am a member of this club but I hope that this is an impartial report.
Bunsay provides a good round of golf for players of all abilities and, although not the longest of courses, first time players would be wise not to underestimate it. Five of the nine holes have lakes, the par 3 7th is 218 yards long and the 8th is long, has 3 trees in the centre of the fairway and slopes from right to left for almost it's entire length. Also, there's a lateral water hazard immediately behind the green.
The fairways are in good condition and the greens are very well kept (the 3rd and 9th are difficult to read).
Obviously, playing 9 holes twice is never as satisfactory as playing 18 but is worth doing just to try and master the 8th.
The par 3 'Badgers' course is very challenging, again with water involved on five of the nine holes. It is a true golf course as opposed to a 'pitch and putt'.
Finally, the food is excellent and plentiful thanks to Gary and Maria.

I have played this course several times in the past and I find it in most places quite dull.
I also found the fact that despite it being a 9 hole course you could not pay for just nine holes....
HOWEVER...
The par 3 Badgers course is completely different, challenging, varied and well worth a vist.
For me, Stay clear of the nine holes and go straight for the Badger!!!!
N Strutt (England) 27/10/00
A great little course with challenges for all abilities. There is also a 9 hole, par 3 course which is extremely difficult in places. Visitors can play both courses for the same green fee (£11) which makes the round much more interesting. Both courses were in excellent condition in August, greens holding but true running, and the rough, which I couldn't seem to avoid, was not too high. Well worth a visit.

Bunsay Downs Golf course is a Golf Course that is challanging for all standards of golfer. It is a testing course that is play twice in order to make up the regular 18 holes, and for a price of œ11.00 it is a real treat for any golfer. High handicappers will will find the course challanging and very enjoyable, and I can guarentee low handicappers will come un-stuck if the course is not respected. It is a reletivley short course but this is made up for by well possitioned bunkers and water. Anyone who hits there handicap on the course will have played a good round of golf. It is unlike any other nine holer that I have played, well worth a visit.
