Burghill Valley Golf Club Player Reports

Burghill is a straightforward, short, modern course at 6,200 yards from the back tees that is walkable and makes for an enjoyable round of golf. There are several very good holes but there are also several short, weak holes that prevent this course from rising to the top of the list of must play courses. The first three holes and the 18th, for example, are very short and are fairly easy birdie holes for a low handicapper like me. The course is walkable and some of the holes have fine views of the surrounding Herefordshire countryside. There is a short game practice area near the clubhouse with a small practice putting green and nets for practice swings. There is a driving range but it is a car ride away next to the 10th tee.

Greens are usually in good shape but are fairly flat and without character. Most of the bunkers are around the greens with few fairway bunkers. Several holes wind through orchards and on some holes there are small groups of young trees planted to catch wayward drives. I play in this area of the country each year and always start my week's golfing holiday at Burghill as it's a pleasant and gentle way to ease into the rest of the week's golf. The staff are always pleasant and friendly and I like the patio area outside the clubhouse for an after-game drink.

Played July 2005 and found it tb be a very interesting course with a good mix of holes. Not long by any means but will test all levels of golfer. A warm welcome from members and staff added the final ingredient to an excellent day.

We played Burghill Valley as part as a golf tour in July. It is a good course, with quite a few tough holes (especially if the wind is blowing as it was when we were there!) Some of the greens are protected by lots of really good bunkers!

Pro and bar staff were very friendly and the food was great!

The opening 3 holes mislead as they are very short and comfortable par or birdie chances for golfers of most abilities.Initial thoughts that this is a bit " mickey mouse" are soon dispelled as the course opens out into a truly excellent test of golf from then on. With fast greens and brilliant bunkering the course is both challenging and enjoyable.Combined with a friendly club house with great choice of beer and food this an affordable treat.Dont miss it !

My favourite test of golf in the Herefordshire /Worcestershire region. For a start, the greens are delightful - true, shapely and quite fast. Secondly, there's those cider orchards providing an Augusta-like effect - you're penalised heavily for leaving the fairway but don't spend hours looking /hacking in the rough. Add a number of deep pot bunkers and you'll find you get pars when you hit good shots, nightmares when you don't. Despite the rigours elsewhere, three short par-4s near the clubhouse give you a chance to leave with a birdie on your card. At 2-Fore!-1 prices, why go anywhere else!
