This is my hometown course and since having a eight year layoff from golf, was the first time I have played it for 10 years.

A new clubhouse awaits you and a very impressive one at that. The changing rooms are a bit dated and could do with a refurbishment. The pro shop is well stocked and staff very friendly.

Now to the course, WOW!! A Henry Cotton designed course which is a par 73 measuring 6769 yards. The course is long and many tee shots require you to be long and fairly accurate. This has to be the best course I have played, fairways and greens are absolutely immaculate. You would not think you are 2 minutes from the town centre as mature trees give you the feel of being deep in the countryside. The only let down was the par 4 ninth as a very high net protects the new offices down the left hand side and now you are unable to cut across the left hand dog leg!

The cost for a round is £30 which is excellent value, but even better value is the £35 for a day ticket allowing the fitter golfers to play a couple of rounds.

This is a must play course, you will not be disappointed!

This is a fabulous course and a good test. There is no better place to play golf in the summer months. Friendly atmosphere in clubhouse, good food. I can highly recommend a try

This Henry Cotton-designed course was built in the early sixties and now possesses a very up-to- date Club House. Both food and service were good and the locals friendly on the day that I played. The changing room facilities are acceptable but not up to the same standard as the Club House. The course itself (6569 yards off the yellows; 6763 yards off the whites) is a good test of golf and it is noticeable how the challenges vary from tee shot to fairway drive to approach play to putting as the 18 holes unfold. The greens were in excellent condition when I played but, unfortunately, so were the bunkers! The first presents a good wake up call with a precision drive required and a second shot over trees plus a winding stream for all those who stray from the straight and narrow with their drive. The par 5 11th is also noteworthy for its hour glass figure. The 2nd shot here demands both distance and pinpoint accuracy. The last four holes are on the other side of the main road and are as good a group of "last fours" as I have played on a club course. Each hole is fundamentally different and the 18th green remains a secret until you have covered 90% of its winding 501 yards. The course is easy to find and well worth a trip out of London to play. I played the course on 30th July 2001 as part of a Society Day and, despite the heat, we all enjoyed the Canons Brook experience.
