On first impressions Chester Le Street course wasnt the most friendly Ive been on, and non-members must tee off within certain time periods, NOT before.
The course itself is very nice, and suits golfers of all handicaps. The course is split into three sections, the front 4 holes being up and down hill with many trees, 5-9 are part of the most recently opened part of the course, and so trees are still young. The back 9 are a mix. The course has only 2 par 5's which are on the Front 9 and a long par 4 on the back 9. The fairways and tee boxes are kept in imaculate condition and the greens are fast and true.
Had an excellent round of golf on a challenging but do-able course. Value for money for a non-member isnt too good in my opinion though.

We played this course on our way up country for a weeks golf in the Scottish Borders. The course is basically set in 3 seperate sections, all with slightly different character. The first is sloped and wooded, the second is flatter with rough and water and the third is sloped with undulating fairways in places. It has a great view of the surrounding town. We felt the front 9 was somewhat better than the shorter back 9 The course was in good condition generally although our day was spoiled by the rudeness of one particular club member who didn't seem to like pay & play golfers on his course.

Set in the shadows of Lumley Castle and overlooking the new Riverside Cricket Ground this is a very testing with some long holes. Excellent greens and a well maintained course. Friendly club, smart clubhouse with good range of food. Well stocked pro shop and good practice area. Worth a visit.
