Played here midweek November 06.
Considering i've read this described as a hidden gem ,that it's a James Braid design & in the AA guide it's in green shading (i.e rated) i found this course a bit of a disappointment.
Although it's cut through a forest & is an established traditional club i thought it was a bit mundane.Lots of similar looking holes, tightish , cut through the trees & there weren't any real standout holes .
On course, the tee markers were quite a long way forward ,there wasn't a great deal of definition along the fairway/green edges,& there were leaves all over some of the greens which should have been blown off.
The four par 3's weren't particularly memorable either whereas with the forest setting they could have been something special.(No use made of 2 natural lakes i spotted ).
The club was welcoming & friendly but i got the impression when i rang that it wouldn't be busy ,but when we got there both of their car parks were jam packed & we were lucky to get round on a clearish run.
It is in an attractive setting & is probably better than a lot of courses but overall i found myself feeling apathetic about it.

Played this course in a society on 1st July. It was in very good condition. We had an enjoyable day on a nice, straightforward course that was suitable for a society. There is not a lot of room if you go through the greens or miss on either side.
There were some dog walkers, but they did not hinder play. There is a road to cross with an island in the middle. It seems to be en route for the Gatwick long term car parks.
One downside is that there was insufficient sand in some of the bunkers. We approached one green where a groundsman had been very carefully raking the right hand bunker. One of our number then landed in this bunker to find only a thin cover of sand over a rock hard base.
Catering was OK though they wanted us out of the dining room fairly promptly. I have not come across that before.

Played most recently during August. The greens were as good as you would find anywhere - even texture and close like a carpet. Obviously, from the comments of others, this course comes on late. It is quite flat and thus could have a drainage issue in the early part of the season. Clubhouse and bar very friendly and a thoroughly enjoyable day was spent on this fine golf course. The 1st is a super challenge starter hole.

Played in the middle of April after all the sun and the greens were struggling. The course is a 100 yrs old and extremely wooded with most of the holes feeling isolated from the others (just the occasional whack of ball on tree to let you know there are other people about...and a few dogwalkers, I'm assumiong there must be public right of way here) There were some very good holes but the greens really let it down badly. I would play here again if I knew they'd improved.

The course wanders through mature woodland, giving a pleasant feeling of isolation. The fairways are quite generous and the greens were excellent in July. It is very easy walking. The twilight rate of £15 after 3 p.m. was good value for an enjoyable, but fairly straightforward, test.

A superb course and one of Sussex's best. The holes run through established woodland which tends to isolate each hole from the rest. A really enjoyable round.
