25th – 27th April 2008

We selected this venue for our annual 'Jolly Boys Outing' this year because it looked like it met all of our requirements for a good weekend’s golf & socialising, we weren’t disappointed! Neil the professional met the ten of us on arrival with coffee & bacon sandwiches as I had requested in my email, we were off to a good start.

The first round is a bit difficult as there is no course map & no yardage markers on the front 9 holes. Luckily there weren’t many golfers about on this Friday afternoon & we had buggies so we able to have a quick look at the holes before teeing off. Also the very friendly members who were in the clubhouse as we arrived had given us various tips on how the course should be played (I never did work out how to play the 9th even after 4 rounds). The course was in pretty good condition for April, the back 9 superior to the front. The greens I would best describe as average & quite slow but quite receptive with the pin positions very tricky. The accommodation in the log cabins was excellent & we had two very pleasant breakfasts & dinners in the clubhouse over the weekend. The real winner for this venue is Neil, the members & all the staff who managed to make us very much at home. I would recommend it either for a golf break or a round on an interesting little course. We will defiantly have another weekend there!

We played this course over last weekend stayed in the log cabins which were great. Played 3 rounds over the 3 days and each time found it different lost a few balls as the rough is very unkind, but had a 56 players society one day and didn't even know they were there. The 1 comment i would like to say is that the club house dosen't serve food after 3pm this i found strange. Like the rest of comments on here is a good course and we will be coming back for more.

ME AND MY MATES PLAY THIS COURSE ONE WEEKEND EVERY SUMMER AND KEEP COMMING BACK.THE COURSE WHEN DRY IS SHORT BUT IS BY NO MEANS EASY.YOU DONT NEED YOUR DRIVER TOO OFTEN BUT YOU HAVE TO BE STRAIGHT OF THE TEE.AFTER PLAYING A FEW ROUNDS YOU NEED TO PICK YOUR PLACE ON THE GREENS CAREFULLY BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME EVIL PIN PLACEMENTS AND EVIL GREENS.(TRY NOT 3 PUTTING ON THE 11TH AND I'LL PAY FOR YOUR ROUND.)SOME HOLES OFFER A GREAT DEAL OF RISK AND REWARD BUT ANY MISS HIT AND YOUR IN TROUBLE(THE 16TH IS A DRIVABLE PAR 4 BUT YOUR IN THE DRINK IF YOU COME UP SHORT.)OVERALL YOU WONT BE DISAPOINTED BY THIS SHORT BUT WELL GUARDED COURSE.

We played this course on Sunday 13th November. Like the previous comments, we found this to be a short, yet enjoyable encounter. It hadn't rained much in the previous week, however it did seem quite wet underfoot. I don't think that it could take much more water before it became unplayable. Nevertheless assuming this was played in reasonably dry conditions it is quite challenging due to its small greens and canny use of narrowing fairways with large trees!

It has bigger named courses close-by (Ufford Park, Thoreness, Aldeburgh etc) however Cretingham does have a place for those wishing an easier, quieter challenge.

The cost of 18 holes for visitors on a weekend is now £18.

A surprisingly pretty course in the middle of the country that has a tendency to get a bit waterlogged given its low-lying nature and proximity to various water courses. Don't let this put you off however (other than in the middle of very wet periods) as its a little gem in my opinion.

A strange mixture of utterly uninspiring and fiendishly challenging (and attractive) hole layouts - on balance the better holes win through and leave you with positive memories of the course as a whole. You probably won't need - or even want - to get your driver out too much as many of the holes require delicate placement from the tee.

Fairways and greens are OK on average: some very good, some of marginal quality but most fine for the good-to-average player. Bunkers have a tendency to be damp and thus hard-packed (high water table, maybe??)

Best in the summer when the abundance of trees make it look at its best. Having said this it can be practically deserted in autumn/winter and unless it has been raining solidly for the week beforehand it is well worth the trip because you will enjoy the course at your leisure.

Laidback clubhouse atmosphere. You can hire one of four well kitted out log cabins on site for a weekend and enjoy unlimited golf.

Might be a touch short for low handicappers but an excellent venue for mid- to high-handicappers
