Much like all the other comments,will give Crews Hill a big thumbs up,it is one of the better courses in the area and has a great feel to it.

Ordinarily they dont do food on a Monday but after a quick call we were accomodated and served a first class wholesome full English filling the whole plate,coffee usually from the machine was swappped for percolated.Not many caterers would have done this and our thanks for obliging.

Although typical of many Middlesex/Herts courses I found each hole had a sublety of its own and for the most part positional play was paramount,the Par 3's were all excellent,typical Colt distance and accuracy holes, all probably playing a little longer than the card suggested with slopes and undualtions.For the time of the year the greens although recently hollow tined were pretty good.

The green fee for a Monday was only 20.00,fantastic value,breakfast 4.50,cant ask for better value,add that to its proximity to the M25 and only being a short train ride from London you have to give this a go,was also impressed with the balcony overlooking the 18th,ideal for a society to relax and view the finishing hole.

We are returning with a full compliment next May when no doubt the greens will be quicker and the slopes will come into play....cant wait

I played 27 holes last week in a society do and give it a hefty thumbs up. The staff and members were friendly, the greens were fast and true and there was plenty of out of bounds to keep the big-hitters honest. Food was great, too.

Apparrently they are trying to acquire some land to set up extra practice facilities as there is only a net and a putting green at the moment - a small quibble which shouldn't detract from the experience. Only 200 yards from Crews Hill station, too, which goes into Moorgate, Old Street and Highbury and Islington.

I reckon Crews Hill is one of the better courses in this bit of London. And at £16.00 during the designated visitor times (£25.00 otherwise) excellent value.

Course is mature parkland but with undulating and sloping fairways. Greens are in excellent condition. Clubhouse is incredibly ugly but has a lovely club feel to it with a balcony overlooking 18th green and first tee.

No particularly outstanding holes but all five par 3s are excellent. As mentioned below the 10th is deceptively hard. All par 5s are just about reachable in two. Of the par 4s the 1st and 10th make for a tough start and finish. The 8th has a tough uphill second and I hate the 17th - should be a piece of cake but three attempts = combined score of 18!!

Only serious criticism is the second rate changing facilities for visitors.

I played on Friday 15th July 2005 at the invitation of a past Captain and his company. The day started with a superb breakfast in the bar. The course is nicely laid out although bearing in mind it is not far north of London, the undulating fairways make it seem like a lynx course. With the recent hot weather, the fairways are brown and rock hard so any wayward shot will slope off into quite serious rough. However, all credit to the green keeping staff, the greens were in excellent condition and must rank amongst the best I have ever seen. The 10th hole must rank as one of the hardest holes to play, circa 170 yards Par 3, downhill across a brook with an almost permanent cross wind (apparently), out of our fourball only one landed the green! A 3 course dinner in the evening was also excellent so all in all a very well run golf club. I'd recommend a visit.

played for first time 28/4/05. 3 players - off bandit16, 20 and the max so not obviosly brilliant!!! however, being the worst player, i found the course welcoming to well struck shots, i found a handful of pars and bogey-net-pars. my strentgh being my wedges, i was overjoyed to find superbly receptive greens, and true putting surfaces - some of the rough was lethal tho!!. my playing partners also found it extremely enjoyable- couple of minor criticisms, couple of bunkers were rock-hard after recent short downpours, and a mysterious fellow lurking in the fairway trees that almost certainly half-inched my partners ball as it rolled over a mound and 4 feet off the fairway!!! that is no criticism of a superbly kept and maintained course and clubhouse. £25.00 a round...cant go wrong - play it!!!

Crews Hill is a challenging course designed by the famous Harry Shapland Colt. On benign, windless days in summer, a golfer may find it not too exacting - provided s/he hits a straight tee shot! However, many of the holes are fraught with danger - e.g. sloping fairways, well-placed bunkers, subtle uplopes to the greens. It is a testament to the great designer, Colt, that very rarely does anyone manage to "tear the course apart." Even the simplest-looking holes, such as the 5th or 17th, can produce an ugly six on the card, whilst the challenging 1st, 14th, and 18th, are all difficult par fours if the drive is not well struck. The score is made on the front nine. The back nine, though shorter, has a winding brook in play a number of times - twice on the 12th hole. Recent poor weather has caused some problems, but the spring growth combined with a strong greenkeeping programme for 2004, should bring the course right back to its best. You must play it !
