The greens are fantastic, fast and true. Holes 5 and 14 are worth the green fee alone.
Make sure you arrive with your short game in good condition and beware the ravine.
This is a very friendly club at which you will be assured of a warm welcome.
Recent changes to the course have meant an increase in the standard scratch to 68 matching the par. If you better par then you have done very well.

If ever there was a course that should be walked with a member before you play your first round, then this is it! We spent a frustratingly enjoyable afternoon hitting off well-maintained tee boxes and fairways into the middle distance in the vain hope that we might pick up a clue as to where the various greens lay. The 3rd, 7th and 15th are all 350+ yard par 4s requiring an accurate approach over a deep wooded ravine to well protected greens and, unless you’ve hit it very well off the tee, you’ll have to lay up so a par is an exceptional result. There are 3 other holes requiring solid tee shots back over the valleys and a there's even a gorgeous little gem of a par 3 at the bottom of a ravine, with a devilish deep stream running right across the front - not at all obvious from the tee. The first 2 holes lull you into a false sense of security but this isn't a course for the faint-hearted and, whilst the layout is a bit confusing for visitors, it's certainly one you should go and play. You'll need a good short game to score well and my only real criticism was the consistent hardpan bunkers after only a modest amount of rain. Whilst I couldn’t putt for toffee on the day, my colleague reliably informed me that the greens were fast and true and it was my fault that I putted like a numpty. Frankly, the course got the better of us but we'll be back to put the record straight and hope to enjoy an interesting experience again.

To the person responsible for monitoring comments on this site.
As a member of Deane Golf Club and Secretary at a prominent course I am appalled and disgusted to read the comment printed on this page posted 29/8/99 regarding how to achieve free 14 hole golf.
You do not only do Deane Golf Club a diservice by posting comments such as this but this also serves to encourage dishonesty at other courses throughout the U.K.

The comment and response about Deane G.C. on this page is beyond contempt. This is NOT the input desired by both club and enquirer. Thus...
I have played this club, I am not a member, but would refer its' play to golfers of an accurate standard. This club is of pre GREAT WAR heritage, originally being nine hole.
The 14th hole was commended as the best hole in Lancashire by the great Bobby Locke and has lost none of its' terror from the tee over the "Calloway" years.
The greens when I have played have been always of fair to good condition but, as any course, will be variable over the year, and certainly prove enjoyable through the fair weather months.
Club facilities I believe are adequate but since a variety of pub/restaurants surround the area I have never had the need.
VERDICT: Well worth the trip!
