Can sympathise with the previous guys report .... Quality course, no doubts. Only niggle were holes 7 to 11 which were a bit non-descript. We used the 2-4-1 vouchers @ £28 each .... great value for money. We played @ the end of March with previous days of heavy rain, but the greens were solid and very fast !! Fairways were in great nick as were the bunkers. Dread to think of what the Greens are like in Summer !! We booked a 'T' for 11.20 but had to wait for the Pro. for 10 Minutes to open the shop, until he had finished what he was doing. There was our 4 Ball and another 4 Ball (i.e 8 Visitors) hanging around !! We had a great round of Golf the four of us, and when we tried to comment to a couple of members what a fantastic course they had. We were all blanked, total ingnorance !! What a shame !! I repeat .. a Quality Course though and well worth a visit. We didn't use the facilities to stay for a drink so cannot comment. We went elsewhere, which is a first for our group.

A group from our Club, around 30 or so, used to go to Dunham Forest on a regular basis as it is a terrific track with good off course facilities at a reasonable price. It was a date in the calendar that we all looked forward to. We stopped going, however, for reasons I will go into later, which should be a word of warning to visitors in the future.

First the course. One word can be used to describe it - quality. Wooded areas all around make for serious trouble if you air off track, but that said most of the fairways are not onerous. There are a number of terrific holes which provide a real challenge in course management to score. The greens are usually in good nick, bunkers, tees and fairways are fine.

Off course, the facilities are terrific. A plush bar and lounge are downstairs, with an expansive dining room upstairs, both overlooking the course. The catering is of the highest standard, locker rooms etc acceptable.

So why have we stopped going?

Very simple. We last played during a week which had seen a lot of heavy rain and it was clear the course was very wet before we teed off. After an hour, with the rain pouring down, it had become practically unplayable, with greens and fairways flooding and bunkers out of commission as they resembled the pond in the back garden. This was then made worse by the dreaded thunder and lightening arriving, and as you can imagine a hasty retreat to the Clubhouse was made, with some having only completed a couple of holes.

A chat with the pro was in order to try to arrange another visit as it was both unsafe to play and unplayable. We obviously would pay to have our meal etc but felt it only fair that some offer was made to allow us to come back at a later date.

It was made clear, and quite uncategorically, that as far as the Club was concerned, once it stopped lightening the course was playable and as such if we chose not to go back out it was our decision and our loss. No refund was offered nor forthcoming. As regular visitors, we were staggered as anyone with any common sense could have wandered to the 4th green to see that it was swimming. I'm not talking about us not wanting to play because it was raining, the whole place was flooded.

But no, nothing doing, and so as soon as the lightening stopped, out we went to play one of the most farcical dozen or so holes I have ever played. It left a bitter taste and another Club now benefits from our patronage.

Really enjoyable round of golf. Not the longest course, but you have to think your way around. Very wooded so you need to stay straight. Excellent value on a 2fore1 voucher. We will definately be back. Didnt have chance to go in the clubhouse, but it looked nice from the outside.

Dunham Forest is an excellent course set in the heart of cheshire woodland. It is a chllenging course, with trees a constant threat on every hole. The course proves its ifficulty by putting a long par 5 as the first hole. There also is a practise range, chipping green, bunker and practise putting green.
