East Berkshire Golf Club Player Reports
Ben Metcalfe (England) 24/05/08
East Berkshire was a lovely traditional feeling golf club. The fair ways were quite tight and the greens rather small. One disappointing aspect was that the greens were a little slow and furry (we played in May). The front 9 was by far the best with some really interesting holes, however the back 9 was not quite so good with more holes running in parallel and feeling a little open. Par 3's were a little disappointing and felt that better could have been made of the natural features. I would definitely go back to East Berkshire as it did have a similar feeling to Wentworth with its nice heather and Berkshire feeling to it. All in all a good course and very friendly pro shop.

Played here midweek April 07 (£22 using a county card).
Very good course that looks & feels classy.Visually impressive holes due to it's tree lined nature, gorse & heather, good rivetted bunkering & general overall presentation.Similar in some respects to some of the top Surrey courses.
Easy walking & the greens tended to be longer than they are wide.Probably 1 or 2 more fairway divots than i was expecting for a course of this quality but speaking to a member the course peaks from May onwards & a couple of the par 3s were a bit average considering it's setting but this really is very minor nitpicking.
This would be an ideal 36 hole society venue &
anyone who plays here shouldn't come away disappointed.

First class golf course and club house.
Our golf society have been playing this course for over 27 years and apart from 1 or 2 days lost to the weather have enjoyed it every time.
Without doubt one of the finest courses in the south east. A must play course for all standards of golfers.

If the three main criteria for a good golf course are: challenge, condition and aesthetic then E. Berks is right up there among the best. My biggest hole tally for a day came here (60). The springy ground means you're less tired at the end than you'd expect and the layout definitely keeps you interested mostly tree-lined and quite tight).
There's only one par five (11th) but every hole needs thinking through if you're to score well. Invariably beautifully kept, with a membership that's pretty assiduous in the divots replaced, pitchmarks repaired departments.
There used to be a sign on the tenth tee that told players they should have taken no longer than an hour and three quarters to get to that point so you can imagine that 4+ hour rounds are something that members have heard rumour of but certainly don't happen at E. Berks thank you very much.

This is one of the best pay and play courses I have yet found . The holes are well laid out and a good test of your golfing skills in addtion to being set in nice surroundings .The course appears to favour a golfer with a left to right fade and demands good iron shots and putting.
Only problem is paly at the weekend can be restricted .

East Berks Golf Club is one of the few hidden gems left in this area. A traditional members club, due to celebrate it's centenary in 2002, this course should be on the intinerary of any keen golfer visiting this area.
East Berks is not a long course, but it's SSS of 70 against a par of 69 suggests it's no push over. It's difficulty is due to the tight tree lined fairways, and long par 4's. The course is often used for top amateur events and is home to the 'Berkshire Stag', once won by Sandy Lyle.
