I've played this course a few times in the last couple of years and my impression has always been favourable.
It is a parkland course, about thirty years old (although the club itself is older, they had to move to a new bit of land in the '70's). As mentioned in another review, there are a large number of specimen trees, which come make this a beautiful course on a sunny spring or autumn day. The trees do come into play but the trees are not the course's main defence. More of this later.
Whenever I have played the course, the greens have generally been in superb condition. However, the course must sit on a bed of clay because it can get waterlogged and closes/goes onto temps when the winter rains come. Make sure you check before you turn up about this. When you get there, you'll find your first priority is to keep the ball on the fairways. The rough can be really penal. It doesn't seem long but it's thick and we've lost balls in grass that's probably no more than two inches high. One exception on the greens - the 6th is a new green - totally out of character with all the others in design and build and moved from its original position because too many balls were being hit into the neighbouring property. This green is steeply contoured where most of the others are quite flat and it is slow, still bedding in.
The course starts with a pretty tough par 5 but for me (handicap 18), the 3rd and 4th holes, both par 4s are potential card-wreckers. The back nine is easier than the front nine, although 16 is a tricky dog-leg par 4, requiring a long accurate drive if you're to get to the green in two. The 18th is a long downhill par 3. It's a tough finish as it's surrounded by bunkers and if you miss the green getting up and down is not easy.
Inside, I've found the members welcoming, the bar staff friendly and the pro shop does what is asked of it.

Played this course on 28 April 2006 as part of Society Day. A lovely course in great condition and a good clubhouse too. There are a number of holes that ask for a blind shot from the tee & some where the 2nd is blind too, so would recommend a course guide. Overall though, a fair test, but avoid the rough.

Played this course today and thought it was wonderful. Formed on an old deer park with over 300 specimen trees. Probably could'nt have chosen a better time to play scenically as the tress were just gorgeous. Probably the quietest course I've ever played on, no traffic or aircraft noise whatsoever.
Challenging course, enough to think about for the lower handicapper but won't intimidate the higher handicapper as there were'nt too many long carries off the tee. Members very friendly and helpful, lunch very reasonable and freshly cooked. Only negative was that they had run out of course gudes in the pro shop. Would love to play it again.
