I was a member of Enmore Park Golf Club from 1948 to 1952 or 53, when I moved to Bristol, then to London. I seem to remember that my subscription was £6 a year. EPGC had 9 holes then, sticky clay soil, greens of less than billiard-table smoothness, but many compensations in the testing uphill first (I still have nightmares about slicing into the Pilgrim's Way), the delightful short 2nd (at which I once got a hole in one), the long 3rd from an elevated tee, and other interesting holes, particularly the last, in which the Pilglrim's Way once more became a hazard for slicers.
I regret that I cannot record my impressions of Enmore since those days, but this reminiscence may nevetheless be of interedst. Those were years of goodfellowship, high spirits (the war had only recently finished) and a wealth of usually indifferent but always enjoyable golf that I shall never forget.
GILLIAN TURNER (Italy) 10/01/98
I HAVE KNOWN THIS COURSE FOR MANY, MANY YEARS - IN FACT MY PARENTS, ESPECIALLY MY FATHER, FRED TURNER, HAS SPENT MOST OF HIS LIFE AT ENMORE PARK GOLF CLUB!
I, TOO, SPENT MANY HOURS AT THIS COURSE, AS A CHILD, LOCATING LOST BALLS AND SELLING THEM TO THE MEMBERS!
I MOVED AWAY FROM SOMERSET 30 YEARS AGO BUT STILL HAVE VERY FOND MEMORIES OF ENMORE PARK GOLF CLUB, AND WHEN VISITING MY FATHER, FRED TURNER, ALWAYS MANAGE TO GET A FEW VISITS IN TO SEE THE "OLD" CROWD!
