Very nice course with Fairways and Greens in excellent condition. On the day I played it was very warm but with a refeshing breeze. I would imagine the course to be more challenging on a windy day.

Everyone at the club made me feel welcome and it was a really enjoyable day out.

The Sunday Lunch in the club house was first class

Played here January 08 (£25 including a breakfast on arrival).

This course has grown on me since i played it.Part links/part parkland ,there was an overall good feel to it .There's a small road running through the course which divides the hole types .The 9 holes to the right towards the sea are links & holes to the left are more parkland in nature.You play 3 links holes then move to the parkland holes before finishing with the 6 links ones.Although you're close to the sea unfortunately you can't actually see it much.

If i was being ultra critical i'd say there are a few too many parkland type holes here as they're a bit bland in comparison to the links holes which are excellent.If the majority of holes here were of the same ilk as the existing links holes it would be top drawer.

The 1st is a great opener from an elevated tee with views across the whole course & straight off the bat you start to get positive vibes about what's laying ahead .There's a good mix of short & long par 4's here .The links holes feel very natural & are good fun.The parkland holes have a brook running through them & some of them feel a bit restrictive as you can have this brook one side with o.o.b. down the other.

The course was very well maintained & the greens were excellent & about the best i've seen this winter.Also the greens were cleverly contoured & interesting to putt on.17 is almost V shaped.

The breakfast we got when we arrived was superb.

The clubhouse is situated at the highest point of the course but strangely doesn't make the most of it's ideal positioning as it has it's 'back' to the sea & the main lounge window looks out sideways to some bushes.Whoever designed this missed a massive trick here as the main lounge could have been high up with panoramic views looking over the course & sea.

Overall a course that's worth playing.

I played this course with my partner on a very windy day in late September - bracing is the word to describe it!

Although we were visitors, and intended to use our 'Inter County Cards', as several of the greens were being tined and dressed, the professional offered us the reduced rates anyway - very reasonable of him. The full green fees are good value before any discount though.

As visitors, we were not supposed to be able to tee off until after 9 am, which is fair enough. However, the members 4-ball that was waiting on the tee called us to tee off in front of them as "we welcome visitors and don't want to spoil their day". We appreciated this courtesy - nice people!

Then the fun started. The course is a good test of golf and very fair. Possibly as a result of the age of the club (1880) and it's position on the east coast, the course doesn't have any 'silly long' holes. Off the yellows, the longest is 500 yards. We played this one (the 8th?) with a following wind - driver, 3 iron, putter. It would be very different on another day.

All of the holes were interesting, especially the 12th, a par 3 where you tee off over the road that splits the course towards a smallish green surrounded by the clubhouse, pro-shop and the car park.

The severity of this course is very dependent on the wind, both in terms of strength and direction, but even on a calm day it would be a good test. I'm reliably informed that these are a rarity though.

Unfortunately, we did not have time to stop in the clubhouse for lunch, so my 'facilities rating' is in respect of the changing room only.

Lovely course, will definately visit again, but those that prefer 'target golf' might not agree.

Played Felixstowe over the last 5 days. Every day the course is different depending upon the wind. For 2 days the pins were in very testing positions and a real challenge. A great course in excellant condition.

Without doubt the friendlist club I have stayed at, from the members to the staff who were first class.

I went with a Society to Felixstowe Ferry 13th July 2005. Very Fortunate, as there was little wind and I guess it played as easy as one is likely to find it. This is a little gem. The course is tough but fair and makes you think. Some of the greens were treated during the day but they were reasonably true and pretty quick. (Dribble in the short ones or you will "lip-out"!)

However, in the clubhouse they excelled. This is the most welcoming golf club I have ever visited, in any part of the world. The food was very good and more than ample! The staff were polite and nothing was too much trouble. A real interest shown in the visitor's day.

I would play there again like a shot! Mind you, if the wind blows, you could see how it might wreck your day.

In places, the fairways are puposely kept unkempt, if you see what I mean. It all adds to the charm of the place.

A great day out for golfers of all standards!

P.S. The club offered a discount because of the greens - without any prompting. What a refreshing change to find a club, steeped in history, that wishes to show itself off, instead of shunning others!
