A mature, well maintained, challenging course. There was some standing water due to the high rainfall but this only mattered if you were quite off the fairways. No big hazards but accuracy is paramount or the trees become a real problem.

Played using 2fore1 vouchers in October 2006. Good value at £17.50 for the day. Typical Leicestershire parkland course, with tree lined fairways, and some interesting holes. Greens were in good condition, and though a lot of work was being done on servicing the bunkers this in no way limited our enjoyment of the course. I dont think its the best course in Leicester, but its close. A throughly enjoyable course as long as you dont get stuck behind the elderly members on a Monday morning!

By the way they dont serve food on a Monday.

Went to Glen Gorse using the 2 fore 1 vouchers and found the club and facilities to be excellent. Our 2 ball were made to feel very welcome from the professional to all the members who were always asking us if we had enjoyed the course. The course itself was in first class condition with the fairways lush and the greens true. The course gently lets you play a cautious game, but beware of the difficult closing holes. The day was finished off completely with a smart traditional clubhouse offering fine food and refreasments.A very enjoyable day.

Most certainly one of the nicest courses I have played. Accurate driving is a must to score well. You also have to put your ball on the correct side of some of the fairways, as you can find your shot to the green blocked out by trees. The Par 3's are excellent. The 9th in particular is a tough hole, as trees either side of the green gives you little room for error with your tee shot. The Par 5's are not overly long and with a good tee shot give you an outside chance of reaching in two. I found the 7th to be suprisingly (as it is ranked 18th) the toughest hole on the course. The drive is difficult with a hedge running down the left and two ponds on the right. The 8th is deceptive, be sure to hit your drive far enough, the dog-leg is more severe than the course planner suggests!!! Holes 16 through 18 are real tough and present a challenging finish if you have a good score going. My only gripe is about the greenstaff. They have done a marvelous job in presenting the course in such superb condition, however they really do need a lesson in etiquette. A sign on the course stated they have priority, but it became a little silly when I had to wait between 5 -10 minutes on several holes to let them cut the fringes of the greens before playing. It's not condusive to fast play really, a 3 hour round turned into almost 4.

Glen Gorse is an excellent course, kept in exceptional condition and with friendly people to welcome visitors to play. The course and club is a traditional "members" club which means that the course is not normally that busy and during the week it is fairly easy to get on to play. The closing three holes are among the most difficult anywhere (each are par fours of over four hundred yards long) and there are also a number of challenging holes on the front nine (the stand out hole is the sixth with trees on the right and an out of bounds down the left). All in all, probably the best course in Leicestershire.
