Played golf for just under a year now. Play every week at different courses. I must admit that the first 5 holes are the hardest opening 5 i have ever played. The 5th hole is the hardest, I found that you need to get to the edge of the fairway to try and attempt to go for the green. Just glad it wasn't the last 5 or i might not have completed it. Brilliant challenging course and i am looking forward to playing again soon in near future.

Played it as a kid some 25 yrs ago it was a great test then absolutely loved it!Learnt my golf on it!The opening holes now, used to be the last ones then, so you can imagine coming up the 5th when it used to be the 18th!I think from memory it actually claimed a couple of old timers in those days!A short course definitely but you have to be accurate looking forward to playing it again soon.

Firstly I must say that I am new to golf and Gotts park is close to where I live so my comments really reflect a “rookies” outlook. The hardest part of the course is the first five holes which I want to concentrate on. The first hole tees off from the top of a steep hill, aim for the tree line along the left hand side of the fairway to avoid the slight drop towards the canal! The second, as said previously is on a 40% incline with the green hidden, this is a straight shot forward, then chip onto green. The third is uphill, steep up hill, but fairly straight forward. The fourth is similar to the first which runs down alongside to the left of the tree line I mentioned discussing the first. Now the fifth, this in my opinion is very tough indeed, if you can avoid the tree in the middle of the fairway then you have a massive incline with the hidden green over the top of the hill. This is a real stamina test. The first five holes are very physically demanding. There are three holes, 12th, 13th and 14th, which are all par threes but are very close together and on a slope, so accuracy is imperative. To sum up I find this course a challenge both in my golfing ability and my physical prowess!. The members must be fit as a butchers dogs.

Just got back from my first round at Gotts Park. This is a really great course when you consider the low green fee, and the fact that it is near the centre of a large city.

The first five holes are admittedly quite steep, but I enjoyed the challenge. These and the 6th, 7th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th are all outstanding. I didnt enjoy the layout of the other holes (8 to 14) quite as much, but the quality of the greens, tees and fairways was superb throughout.

People complain that this course is too short. The key, as others have said, is in accuracy off the tee, as this course is just as quick to punish as any other.

The clubhouse is somewhat dilapidated, but you dont expect the R&A at a council run course, and it more than serves its purpose.

Overall, I highly recommend this course, especially at the price. The only minor niggle for me is that the practice area is a little small to hit full shots with any but the shortest irons.

Whilst I agree with the last reviewer that the start to the course is somewhat severe, I do not agree that it is a waste of effort, in fact it is a challenge.

Perhaps I am somewhat protectionist towards it but for an inner city municipal in not the best area of Leeds, charging a pittance for a green fee it is ideal for the local player not wanting to venture too far. Most golfers I know play it from time to time....and the quality of greens are exceptional given the idiots around.

It is not being long but can be as tricky as many more noted courses which charge three or four times the price.

Admittedly, not a course for the connisseur or one to travel long distances to play but what does one expect in the middle of Armley?

I didn't know the Alps had been moved to Bramley, until i played Gotts Park. From the 2nd to the 5th the hills got gradually steeper. After releasing my safety rope for each shot on the 5th i realised this course was going to be a short waste of time and a big waste of energy. It's only redeeming feature was it's well kept greens. Anyone thinking of playing this course should remember to take an oxygen mask and crampons.
