This is a tough course. Not long but the rough is left to grow all summer and your lost ball count will be high if you stray from the short stuff. It's also quite a long walk as the course is divided by a main road which you have to cross twice. The greens were excellent but some bunkers were a little bare. The course starts and finishes with par 3s and during the round there are other par 3s all of which are testing especially if, as we were, playing into the wind. The two guys I played with kept joking as we went round about "getting near Crumble Corner" which is apparently the comparison given to "Amen Corner" for the 12th, 13th and 14th as many a golfer has crumbled whilst playing them. All 3 are potential card wreckers - the 12th is a longish dog leg left at which you are tempted to cut the corner but beware. Both my mates tried this and lost their balls. The 13th is a stiff uphill par 3 and I only marginally over hit the green but that was the last I saw of that ball. The 14th is one of the toughest par 4s I've ever played with a deceptive green that's near impossible to hold your ball on, The closing holes are almost as testing and my only complaint would be that the rough is too testing and needs to be trimmed. I know it's there to penalise wayward shots but this stuff leaves you will little chance of finding your ball. I've passed this course many times driving along the M61 and often wondered what it's like. Well now I know. It's a real examination of your game from start to finish and one that's got me wanting to return to see if I can do better. If you play here take plenty of balls - the lost count for the 3 of us ran into double figures. Signed in by one of my mates who's a member here the round cost me 310 which is cheaper than chips and excellent value.

I used to caddie here when i was a boy, around 1965, a good bag would pay half a crown in those days. It seemed to me then to be an enourmously long way round, especially after having crossed the road (plodder lane?) at the top. I think its a par 3 as you cross back over, and my man once had a hole in one there. My wife and I are planning a short trip back to UK this summer and i look forward to playing the course. Are caddies still available i wonder ?

Been a member at Greatlever&Farnworth for 4 seasons, the course has some testing holes especially the par 3s score well through these and you will have a good card, the greens are as good as anywhere ive played, bunkers are a bit hit and miss but some are new and the sand hasnt bedded in yet,the 1st and 2nd are new holes designed by "MarkJames" in truth these Two holes are not a patch on the holes they replaced, and our own green staff have had to work very hard to make them playable well sone lads, clubhouse and shop are 2nd to none, and visitors are allways made welcome, its not a long course but you do seem to walk between green and tee a lot i would recommend it to anyone to play, try 1st week in sept captains charity day 4 for £40 great value great prizes and a great night to be had,

AM CURRENTLY A MEMBER OF THIS COURSE AND HAVING READ PREVIOUS COMMENTS AND PLAYED SEVERAL COURSES IN RECENT TIMES, I WOULD RANK IT AMONGST THE MOST SEVERE TESTS I HAVE EVER PLAYED. ANY WIDTH OFF THE TEE IS LIKELY TO FIND O.B. IN DRY SPELLS THE GREENS ARE LIKE LIGHTENING AND DIFFICULT TO HOLD YOUR APPROACH SHOTS. IT IS A LONG WALK AND AT PRESENT SUFFERS FROM ABUSE BY KIDS DIGGING UP THE GREENS ETC. IT IS A GREAT SHAME AS THE GREENKEEPERS TRY TO KEEP IT IN EXCELLENT NICK. GOOD LUCK TO THE NEW MEMBERS/VISITORS IVE SHOT A 69( ONCE) AND STILL THINK ITS HARD!!

After playing this course me and my brother have decided to become members because it is an excellent course and the facilities are first class. The course is in kept in excellent condition and the greens run fast in summer. Dont be afraid to use a titlest pro v1 on this course as it is quite difficult to lose a ball if you are carefull. The course suites all players wheather you are a high handicap or a scratch player. Their are a number of hazards whitch make the course more exciting. It suites players who are not the streightest of drivers of the tee. The 18th hole is an excellent 156 yard par 3 with the green tucked away behind a pond. Some of the holes give you a good chance of making birdie or eagle. I highly recomend this course and carnt wait to become a member.

I have been a member of this club for two years and the course is in excellent condition throughout the year and the greens are very well maintained and very quick in summer. The course is a true test of any golfers ability from the high handicapper to the scratch player. There are various hazards throughout the 18 holes but the great thing about this course is that you only end up in real trouble if you hit a really poor shot, most of the fairways are wide and not much deep rough. I challenge anyone to get a par on the 2nd hole which is a par 4, i have yet to achieve it!. I took a guest on the course who is a 2 handicap and he said that it is the hardest par 4 he has ever played in his life, he took a 6!. The weather plays a big part here and if the wind is blowing from the north then this is one of the toughest courses around.
