Great Salterns Golf Course Player Reports

July 2007, and a first time visit to Great Salterns..what a pleasant surprise. Being a Muni, I expected the worst, but I was slotted in between more singletons and had a very pleasant round indeed. The course is as flat as a pancake and I felt a little embarrased with my electric trolley, but I do carry the kitchen sink. Although flat, no-where is it boring and even the short par 4's have stings up their sleeve like ditches just in front of the greens and the like. All in all, a lovely little course that whilst intended for all and everyone, will certainly test even the lowest handicapper..........and the greens, well they wouldn'y have been out of place on the best members club around.....well done all at Great Salterns

Hi,
I am new to the game of golf only played a few rounds at Salterns and also at Furzley in Denmead.
Salterns is a nice course although fairways seem to be poor with many divots left in them and not replaced.
A range of different holes are short like 18th and 15th and 3rd hole which are all around the 120-180 yards. The 7th was the worst for me rely at 418 and not being able to drive the ball that well it took me a few shots to get to the green, apart from that i was pleased with 108 on my first round, hazards around the course like on the 13th a large pond in the way although any shot over 100 yeards clears that.
Great value for money only £10 for me being a junior. Also very close to where i live only about a 15minute walk so no relying on dad to give me a lift! No problem getting a tee time either even at weekends and on bank holidays.
Playing there tommorow hopefully weather will be nice!!!
Would recommend.

I am a regular to great saltens golf course as i have a season ticket. The course is very enjoyable when play is steady and you dont have to wait 5 minutes on the tee. Ive played there many times and my game is not on form so i recently booked a lesson for this sunday with a bloke called terry who is amazing. The hardest hole i think and according to the stroke index is 7 as it can destroy your round if the tee shot goes wrong. My favourite holes are 1,8 and 18 as they are enjoayble holes when you play them well. Overall saltens is a good course but there are problems with teenagers who dont care for the game and just muck about.

First time I played this course friday .Just turned up and was able to get on without booking.Good cheap course with some nice holes.Started off without too much pressure but by the ninth we had caught up with several slow groups and it started to get a bit slow.Having said that I found the course very forgiving and if you have recentley not been playing very well this course is ideal for getting your confidence back

- This course is very legendary because most holes on this course gives u a birdie chance or maybe an eagle,
- The 7th hole has got to be the hardest hole on the course thats if ur long enough to go over the trees.
- The 13th hole has got to be the hole in golf all u have to do is smash a 3-wood shot off the green then putt or chip in.
- This course suits a 28-8 Handicapper if lower should be at a harder course.

As a beginner to golf, I was looking to start on a course that was challenging yet was fair to beginners.
Great Salterns has been the perfect place for me in the three trips I have made to the course thus far.
Paying eleven pound to use the course is to me a bargain, from the time you start, right thourgh to the finish, you always feel happy to be there.
Also a great view of portsdown hill from the course always makes it a scenic course.
My only concerns with the course is the fairway's, [sometimes I don't know if i'm on it on if I am in the rough.]
Also water in divots that have been left behind and not been replaced after use is frustrating.
Also I would like to be sure that any young teenagers on the course are aware of the playing thourgh rule, so as to not hold players behind up.
In all a great day out and a good day's game of golf
