What a fantastic course!
The best greens I have ever played on in this country.
That wind makes it one hell of a test.
Wish I was a mamber here!

I have been a member at Hallamshire since 1982. The course is renowned locally for its greens which are true and firm. The course is at the top of Lodge Moor so under normal British conditions the wind is a significant factor. The views across the vally is superb. In the summer on a hot calm day when the fairways are dry you need to ensure your ball stays on some of the fairways otherwise slopes and roll will require the next shot to be played from thickish rough. The far end of the course features a stream which runs at the bottom of several stiff climbs, the 8th and 11th being particularly demanding on the legs. Many members as result are commited to their using an electric trolley (Buggies are not allowed). There are in total 5 par 3s, with only one shortish par 4 (7th) this makes good scoring on the 3s the basis of a good round. The Par 5s all run with the prevailing SW wind - this is the weakest point of Hallamshire, the second 9 featuring 3 Par 5s which for a strong hitter are all reachable in 2 good shots wind behind. The course would benefit with a Par 5 on the front 9 but to be fair the front 9 Par 4s, into wind, play really long. I would recommend anyone to treat themselves to a round at Sheffield's premier course.
