Just had a society day. Full English Breakfast, 9 holes, Lunch, 18 holes, all for £20. Staff could not do enough for us. We had 2 vegetarians who were asked what they wanted for lunch and everything was done with good humour. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition considering the recent weather and even after a severe hailstorm during our round it drained very quickly. Scores varied from 24pts to 37pts and the general concensus was that we all had a good day out.
Some rough edges, bunkers with no rakes, but who needs a rake when there isn't much sand!! and no ball washers or markers for any hazards. Mounds down the side of many fairways actually defined the course and when the landscaping is finished this course will really be a "little gem".

I have been playing risebridge on and off for many years, and in the past would have agreed with most of the reviews below. The course has always been good value(and used to actually be good), and there has always been complaints about the Bunkers etc.
However after playing this weekend and a few dodgy rounds over the past 6 months I feel compelled to add to these complaints.
First off it is a Bargain, I can't deny how cheap it is. However what you get thrown in for this cheapness is unnacceptable. Here are my complaints:
1. The course changes, there are now many mounds around the course that never used to be there. These mounds are basically builders rubble covered in topsoil. You can confirm this by looking at them closely you can see nice bricks poking through. Apparently these are GUR, but considering that they cover a significant part of the course it isn't nice. If they ever were to become playable I wouldn't want to take a divot.
2. The other course changes, the ones that are meant to improve the course. These are the ones that get started and never finished. For example the 15th there is a Bunker in front of the green that has been GUR for at least 2 and a half years. The temporary tee on the second has been in effect for about a year as well.
3. No precautions are taken to look after the course, for example Buggys are a year round feature and so is the mud, tracks and brown ground all around. Which means that the course is more suited to wellies than golf shoes after even the smallest amount of rain.
4. The Tees, again this can probably be included in no 3. All year round tees are all very good, if they can handle it. Teeing off from mud patches isn't fun, or particularly safe in some cases. I honestley have never seen Tees so bad. However I have noticed that there are no mats on most tees so maybe they have saved money by not having them.
At the end of the day if you want to hit a little white ball round a well designed but badly looked after course (although the greens are ok !!) for £15, then this is the place. But it is barely golf, personally I would rather stump up the extra tenner and go and play somewhere where the owners care for the course.
I am gutted because I believe that with a little care this could be one of the better courses in essex.

This is a little gem of a golf course.
If you can stay on the fairway you will do well, but stray into the rough/trees/ditches and a high score will be made.
The course is in great condition although some landscaping work is taking place, but it's all around the edge of the course.
Greens and fairways are in good condition.
The tees need some work but I've played on worse.
The bunkers could do with some quality sand in them and there are no rakes, they keep getting pinched.
Some very interesting holes and well worth a try.
Special midweek off on at the moment - £14 for unlimited golf, free use of the par 3 course and a bar meal (Ploughmans, Jacket Spud or Brunch - Bacon, Sausage, Fried Egg, Baked beans & a slice of toast).
The Pro shop/Cafe is in the middle of being refurbished.
Golf carts are available at £12 per round.
A weekend round cost £19
This is well worth a go.

Played the course a couple of times since the late summer and have been really impressed, things have really been turned round, fairways and greens are now actually cut properly, a big up to the new greenkeeper and his staff, good to see someone who knows whay they are doing. Though golf carts in Nov???
That apart the course is 100 times better than when I last played (it had horses on it) bunkers have sand and there are yardage stakes at the side of the fairway.
Only downside is that the cafe now seems to be closed, which is a shame they did a great fry up!!! You can get food out of the pro shop, but it's the poncy bagette & coffee thing for mega dosh.
All in all well worth a visit, will be back again, if only to get on par 14th in two!!

Always enjoy playing the course. Some tough Par 4s on the back nine. Greens could be improved but doesn't bother me with my putting. My old local course was Barnehurst so more than happy with Risebridge.
