Hintlesham Golf Club Player Reports
Alan Cooke (England) 04/03/07
I played this course last Friday following such wet weather that a lot of courses in East anglia have been closed. It was fully open (no temporary greens or the dreaded mats) and remarkably dry.
We had a lovely day and all of us (8 with a range of handicaps) thouroughly enjoyed the course.
The holes are well designed and the greens very well protacted by bunkers and, the last two, lakes.
All in all a very good test of golf.
The 'icing on the cake' is that the changing facilities are first class, and the food is excellent. Coupled with this, the staff and management are very friendly.

Arrived on the off chance of getting a tee slot and the welcome could not have been warmer, such a change from the stuffy impression one gains as a casual visitor of too many clubs.
The greens were impressively quick and true for the time of year (January) and despite heavy rain the previous night the course was remarkably dry.
We were given a choice of tee (unusual) and decided to play the full 6368 yards, horay, not a dreaded temporary tee mat in sight.
Highlight was the 4th hole, a real stunner 219 yard par 3 over water with the green guarded by mature trees and develishy placed bunkers.
Remarkably undulating for Suffolk the course had very good definition for winter and we enjoyed pleasant views with the added bonus of listening to and watching woodpeckers going about their daily business!
The course has matured considerably since we last played here 8 years ago and we paid £27 for a winter special which included 18 holes of golf followed by a fine bangers and mash & crumble. Great value for money. Only one minor quibble, they could do with a bit more internal course signage to help those not familiar with the layout.

Reasonable test of golf, did not play very long, but maybe shortened in hot weather as it looked like the ground would dry and provide roll. Several 'blind' shots - not very appealing but still only lost one ball. Rough very long and likely to lose a ball rather than just a stroke, greens mainly ver good, a couple of them have animal scrapes in and that spoils the overall effect. Played with a 2 4 1 voucher and was happy to pay that, don't know about that money for 1 player though.
