Hoebridge Golf Centre Player Reports

I played the Hoebridge on May 3rd. The course was in good condition and it looks like some of the re-laid sections are settling in well.
The only problem we had was the pace of play. We checked in on time and were told that they were running 20 mins late. Not a problem in itself, but the course was very busy. On the 5th there were two groups playing the hole, one group on the tee box and 3 groups including us that were waiting.
The front 9 took 3.5 hours. One of the groundsmen had advised us that the delays were caused by them overbooking by three groups and that they also had too many people turn up for a competition. As we had no intention of a 7 hour round we asked about a refund for the back 9 at the turn given the pace of play. Their policy is no refunds.
We paid £31 per person for this privilege, a week in advance.
I have played Hoebridge in the past and for a pay and play course, particularly at the reduced rates, it has been generally good but based on this experience I won't be going back.

played today and found the course in excellent condition, the greens very consistent and thankfully the rough very tame. nobody in our averagish four-ball even lost a ball.
worth getting a society rate if you can as it's a tad pricey, and carry your bag or go buy a trolley elswehere as its £5 to hire one, the dearest I've ever seen. almost worth paying the £20 for a buggy.
catering is great, breakfast roll and roast beef and yorkshire for £36 a head plus the round. good value, the trolley notwithstanding.

Played the Hoebridge course last week. Terrible round for me, but I was very impressed with the course.
For a high handicapper I found the course fairly long. Especially the 468 yard par 4, 3rd.
The best thing about the course was the condition of the greens which were excellent. Pretty quick but very consistent.
At £15 for the twilight rate, I would definitely recommend this course.

Hoebridge Main Course is a very challenging, undulating course set in some picturesque Surrey countryside. It is generally kept very well although in the height of summer the standard of the greens does deteriorate somewhat due to the course being a pay-and-play.
I would certainly recommend Hoebridge to golfers of any standard who fancy something different. All the holes bring a new challenge, and you need to be at the top of your game to come away feeling satisfied.

I learned to play at Hoebridge on the par 3 course (The Maybury) and, with hindsight, I can see why I got hooked on the game - there are 18 holes (not the usual 9) and the back 9 in particular features some spectacular (for a par 3 course) raised tees (11th & 14th) and raised greens (15th & 16th).
If you know anyone looking to take the game up then 'The Maybury' course is a great place to start. Its fun for a beginner and holds its challenge as you improve. The 9 hole 'Shey Copse' offers the next step up with some short par 4s in the woods.
I earned my handicap on the 18 hole main course (The Hoebridge) and, because of the variety in the holes, I keep coming back for more. Many of the holes are 390-500 yards with very generous fairways giving me more opportunities to have a good lash with the driver than is often prudent on narrower golf courses. Shorter holes like the 5th and 7th bring variety as they encompass steep slopes and a dogleg around the same raised copse.
Most of the greens are pretty firm which means they can be a bit tricky to hold with your approach shot.
Many holes give great views of the surrounding countryside and great use is made of the naturally hilly location.
Uniformed 'buggy men' are on patrol on the main course to reprimand slow play and check cards. I've not come across this at other pay-and-plays and I think it reflects well on the club.
The practice facilities are very comprehensive - driving range and putting by the clubhouse - sand bunkers, pitching area, and chipping to a sloping green by the car park.
Overall a great 45 hole golfing facilty.

Played during a blistering day in mid July.
Course played very well, v. good greens and
fantastic views over surrey downland.
Favours the Long hitter and is a testing course, mainly due to the variety of the holes, length and tricky greens.
Although a Sunday noon tee off, the play was rarely held up. Highly recomended..but watch out for the groundsman on his suped up golf buggy! beware!
