Played here midweek August 06 ( £20 using a county card ).

Good course.Initial impressions were a bit misleading as we didn't get the wow factor when we arrived.

However ,after playing the 1st hole the course really comes into it's own.

Designed by Bernard Darwin (you can see the Woking G.C.influence)it's an attractive course that flows nicely (not much walking between greens & tees)& is very well layed out .Nice to start & finish with a par 5 .Also ,the old fashioned bunkering superbly enhances some of the holes.

There are also some good strategic short par 4's.The back 9 in particular was hard to fault & comparable to the top notch in Surrey.

Although the greens ran a bit slow on the visit the putting surfaces were excellent (possibly the best i've seen this summer).Fairways were dry & a bit patchy.

The newish clubhouse/terrace doesn't seem to fit with the quality of the course & doesn't draw you in which is a shame & it could also lose it's 'country club' tag as this could put people off.

Overall ,it just lacks a fraction of class that you get at the top Surrey courses but it is a course that's well worth playing .

I played here in September 2005 as a one-off visit and thought this was a decent course.

We received excellent hospitality, although we were with members. The fairways and greens were in good condition. The course isn't long and the fairways are generous. There is a nice variety of holes, well placed hazards and some picturesque par 3's, of which the 6th and 9th stand out. There were no course planners available (small diagrams on the scorecard)which would have been an issue on a number of holes if we hadn't had some local knowledge.

I was a member of this club for 17 years. It is an excellent coure in the summer with good greens. The course benefits from the 1st and 10th tees being immediately adjacent to the clubhouse which is ideal for visiting parties looking for a 27 hole package. There is a good variety of holes(5 par 3's and 3 par 5's)with Ifield's own Amen Corner being the 14th, 15th and 16th which are all par 4's over 400 yards with out of bounds very much in play. The pick of the holes are probably the long Par 3 9th and the tricky par 4 14th. The short 7th at 311yds is also a gem and a potential card wrecker if your tee shot, played with an iron, goes astray. The club has a pleasant clubhouse and has recently added a new visitor's changing room.

I always enjoy Ifield, but on this occasion it was very boggy and our 4 ball had to play on a few temporary greens, but this was reflected in the reduction of green fee. There are certainly many time when you are allowed to open your shoulders and take out the driver. The 9th hole I feel is the best, a 230 yard+ par 3 from an elevated tee. Will certainly return, but in hopefully better weather conditions.
