Played Kendal a few weeks ago now after it appeared in 'Todays Golfers' top 100 2-4-1 courses... Must say, wasn't too impressed. Yes the views are impressive and yes it is relatively cheep and granted we've not had the best of weather this year, but in the top 80 it isn't! The greens were very very average (could do with new flags too!) The lack of a course planner is terrible, it doesn't help the visitor one bit, as at least half the greens are hidden and the routing to the next tee can be a bit vague sometimes too. Did receive a Friendly welcome though, if you do play it, a buggy is a must.

What a lovely course.

Fantastic condition with beautiful views. Everybody made us so welcome. A little hilly but buggies were available. Would recommend a game at Kendal Golf Club to anyone!

We played this course in July 2004, and as noted by comments from other reports, this course is hard walking, make no mistake. However, this was not the downfall of the course, as it is very scenic, and in good condition. For a visitor, it is the lack of course planner available. There being a number of blind shots, we were forced on several occasions to walk 100 yds up the fairway just to establish where to hit our approach shots and what club to use. Very annoying after about the 3rd time, and just as so to the locals who were following behind us, I'm sure. Having spoken to the club pro after our round, he reported that a course planner is ready to go into print, but some problems with copyright was preventing the club from proceeding. Until a course planner is available I would not recommend a visitor playing this course for the first time. Although if you know where you are going, its a course which will provide enjoyment.

Blimey!!! Even Hillary and Sherpa Tensing would have struggled on this one...Prepare to set a base camp at the bottom, as you begin your trek up one of the hilliest golf courses I have ever played...Somewhat challenging, but very exilharating and varied, you will really feel you've played around of golf after experiencing this course!!!

Hilly. Good views. Good course. Take your Powa-kaddy. The 17th is a 120-130yd par 3 ad you have to hit over a wall which looks like it used to guard a castle. Hit a 9 iron. Anything hitting the wall will be punished dearly. Go now. Book your round.

Not a course for the faint of heart, Kendal requires courage and excellent ball striking. The first, straight uphill, looks distinctly unpromising. As you gradually climb the great hill on which the course is built, its difficulties unfold. The second careers dangerously round a left hand bend. The 6th, a marvellous hole, is like playing upwards into the neck of a funnel. The 7th is a fine, grand, long downhill par three. Halfway through the back nine there are some very long and difficult holes. It helps to be well armed with sustenance at this point. Then two exhilarating downhill par fours, before the extraordinary 17th, a 9 iron over a rock that looks like a cross between a wrecked ship and a sculptured whale.
