Overall great views and backdrops to holes, particularly holes 9 and 10 where mature treelined fairways against the backdrop of the Lakes dales led to greens surrounded by mature woodland.
Some challenging holes and jaw dropping climbs and drops make the course really interesting and sometimes intimidating making up for the absence of sand.
Greens could do with some attention as they were fairly rough but overall a lovely and quiet (on a Saturday afternoon) course.
Greenfees were in fact £30 and the bar didn't appear to be open when we came off at 6:45pm.
Overall fair value for money and an enjoyable course.

I have to agree with the others here about the surrounding views, but maybe after reading them I expected too much with regards the course itself. There were a number of really nice holes, but the front 9 is just a little bit open and doesn't prepare you for the much tighter back 9.
I played this course in June, and as I managed to catch the only dry afternoon of my week in the Lake District the course was understandably very wet underfoot. The greens ran true though, and apart from a few very soggy patches the fairways were good too.
I don't know what it was though, but there was just that certain something missing that made me decide that this wasn't up there with the top courses. It's a real shame too, as the location already gives it a headstart over the vast majority of courses.
That all said, would I play here again? I'm pretty sure I would.

I played the course in June '04 and would recommend it. The greens were okay to good, it was dry and hot so required accurate shots to stay on the greens. The 7th & 8th have an enourmous drop behind/infront of the greens and are very cruel to mishits. The thing I liked most about it was, apart from the scenery, the changing landscape. It went from flowing or open fairways to a hole that looked like it came out of a Constable painting. Great experience.

Having played this course recently, I can wholly endorse the excellent views from every hole. The greens are in good condition, but the fairways even in June were very poor. Not since the winter have I lost a ball by it plugging in the fairway as it did on the par 5 14th. The fairways need some extra drainage, they feel just like fields. There is a good challenge with lots of natural hazards. Given the condition of the fairways, it felt pricey. Sort those out and this will be a gem. Also, don't be lulled into hitting woods of the tees, use of irons can give results.

Quite possibly the toughest challenge I have faced golfing. Only two bunkers on the whole course, both fairway bunkers on the first. Brilliant views, brilliant greens and fantastically laid out. No two holes are the same. I recommend you stick around for pint and a meal afterwards, service in the clubhouse is exceptional.

Excellent views from every hole. A really beautiful course. Good clubhouse and pro-shop, a very warm welcome. Greens and course in general are excellent, lots of natural hazards. If you`re in the Lakes this is a must!
