Leigh Golf Club Player Reports

I played here 10th June 2006 on a lovely hot and sunny day, I have to say that the course is in great condition and although not long (5881 yds off the whites)will say that if you are a novice or very high handicap this course will tear up your scorecard and demoralise you, fairways are tree lined and fairway bunkers perfectly placed, however those of a reasonable standard will love it, small greens well bunkered and running true you also need to be able to shape your shots to get the best lie into the greens. "Signature Hole" is the par 3 12th at 151yds, stream in front of green, big oak trees either side of fairway and bunkers all round on a sloping green !! just brilliant. just one drawback Clubhouse does not overlook course (ok if you suffer from 1st tee nerves though) They have just purchased additional land next to the 15th hole so are looking to change the layout.

Leigh Golf Club used to be a nice course, but it sure isn't now. I played it two weeks ago and found it to be in lousy condition. The fairways were strewn with unrepaired divots, and all of the greens have some kind of disease. They are rutted, bareft of decent grass. Putting was a complete lottery. I'm not just talking about small areas - they have lost all of the greens. It was quite a shock. It's going to take a massive effort by the greenstaff to save the course, if they haven't lost it already. One to definitely miss.

The standard of the course is extemely poor in winter and doesn't improve much as the year progresses. The greenkeepers think that their job criteria entails cutting the grass ever so of often, skilled techniques have never been introduced, we mayswell just have a couple of sheep to maintain the course. The greens are disgraceful and are easily disturbed by the weather, but it's still ok to rally around on tractors to cut the greens, surely such delicate greens should be hand mowed.
As a junior it's not unusual to be treated badly both on and off course. One half-wit once tried to fight me on the course for no apparent reason other than he was jealous that I had a brain and was capable to fight with complex sentences rather than using my fists. The juniors have no entertainment or added facilities and as a responsible young adult I think I should be atleast allowed to play snooker, but this is Out.Of.Bounds for us as were not 21. The seniors have made up stories and have tried to ban myself from the club as I voice my opinion on their awful attitudes and childlike jealous behaviour.
The pro is friendly, as is his assistant and would be glad to help and there is a minority who are fun and enjoy the junior company.
On the whole I think we've outlined huge holes in Leigh golf clubs organisation and hope for a change and a better future.

Lovely short-ish course with several testing holes. Only one par five hole on the course.
Extremely friendly staff. Very good food.
