Much much too expensive......plenty more and often better courses in Devon to play.........the course itself is nice, but it always has been and no amount of trickery and "Americanisation" is going to make it any better or any worse...sorry, the price of golf here puts it out of the reach of "real" golfers

For those that haven't played this little haven before they will wonder from the scorecard why there is so much fuss made about the challenge and the surroundings.
The first 8 holes play along and across a meandering river are certainly meant for us straight hitters otherwise you will need a good supply of balls!
From the 9th onwards it was a mixture of gentle parkland and moors allowing much greater tolerances for the wayward and short hitters amongst our party.
The greens were all well presented and offer many deceptive lines towards the hole.
From the white tees this course is a real test for the low handicappers, although the 18th fairway does not do the rest of the course justice.
I understand that 2-1 vouchers will disappear now that it is being renamed Bovey Hall and 'loads' of money is being spent on the 1st and 18th holes in particular to make it a really high class venue.
Great pro-shop with an extremely friendly and relaxed atmosphere putting you in just the right mood for what is a lovely relaxing round of golf.
Hotel facilities are being dramatically upgraded but the food in the restaurant is already superb.
Play it now because after April 2004 it will be expensive and exclusive if all the alterations are completed.
Great golf -lovely hotel-superb food - a must for a short break or day out.

First 7 holes among streams memorable. Last 4 not very interesting. 18th fairway in a bad state. Needs money spending but hotel and course allegedly up for sale - hope it finds the right buyer. Wadworth 6X and Beef Casserole were excellent. Overall a very enjoyable experience - especially at £15 each (2 for 1).

Played this in march 99, a good test of golf especially when the wind is blowing as it was in our case!! Always semmed to be hitting long irons for second shots. Good value for money would recommend it as a good golf break.

The hotel claims this is a "truly championship cousre" - not quite but good nonetheless. The stream that runs through some of the front nine was the best feature and made a more interesting round.

A thoroughly enjoyable round of parkland golf. Don't be put off by the yardage, many of the holes require accurate tee shots to get a good shot onto the greens, which were all fast and true. Staff in the pro shop were helpful and the bar was welcoming. The only annoying thing about the course was the attitude of some of the greenkeepers, who continued to mow teeing areas while we were teeing off. All in all, however, terrific value at £12.50 with a 2-fore-1 voucher.
