Mere Golf and Country Club Player Reports
Mike Murray (England) 11/05/07
We played Mere in a Corporate event on a mild Thursday in May and must say, it's one of the finest parkland courses I've ever played.
The first is a gentle downhill par 5, the perfect hole for those nervous starters, with it's wide open and forgiving fairway. The course then presents a range of fabulous holes, notably the 15th (one of the most picturesque holes in the North West), and the 17th (sharp dogleg right). Make sure you check out those houses to your right!!
The final hole is a left to right par 5, the second shot being the toughest on the course (anything right is in the drink), the green being small and punishing.
The clubhouse is a grand affair, the Atrium a lovely touch as is the well stocked pro shop.
I look forward to our next outing at Mere in the near future.

I played Mere in Feb 06 with my son aged 8. The pro' at our own course, Rochdale, arranged a round for us for £30 but unfortunately the weather was poor and we were off winter greens, there was frost on the fairways and by the 15th my son was so cold he packed up. Despite all this we could see what a cracking course Mere is. The main greens looked excellent and the course would be lovely to play in summer. The last 4 holes are real testers especially the 18th. Good value food in the Atrium bar/restaurant brought a glow back to our faces. Everyone very friendly and not stuck-up at all. Definitely go back in better weather although paying full green fees would be expensive.
