Challenge: 8/10 Course not long but few shots give you an entirely even stance with fairways at varying angles with well placed bunkers. Certainly a course you need to know your way around to score well. I didn't. VFM: 8/10 Not cheap but balancing the quality of course and facilities good value. Facilities: 8/10. Good clubhouse with excellent bar & food. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would go again if in the area with time to play the course which is well maintained with good greens. Think it would be worth a diversion from the A50 if you are passing Derby and fancy a round.

Having been a member at MGC for about 4 years now and also being the clubs Junior Captain in 1999, I feel I know the course rather well. The course itself isn't very long in comparison with other courses in Derbyshire but still there are enough tough holes to ruin anyones scorecard. A slightly wayward tee-shot on a number of holes could give you a tough shot into reasonably small greens. The course has no par fives from the mens competition tees but holes such as the fifth and eleventh that are 480+, give even the better players a very tough challenge. Also none of the four par threes are easy, due to surrounding trees, bunkers, hills and ditches. In general the course is very tight but if you manage to keep the ball down the middle from your tee shot, then on most holes you shouldn't really have anything more than a 6 or 7 iron into the green, but on the longer holes it could be as much as a 3 wood. Aside from the course itself, the club house is recognised well throughought the county and you can rely on a pleasant atmosphere anytime you go in. The stewards put on a dinner night once a month in the newly built Restaurant, aswell as catering daily for bar snacks or societies. All together Mickleover Golf Club is a well looked after and pleasant course to play at, and i'm sure that anyone would enjoy a round there anytime.
