The Millbrook Player Reports
Steve Mclean (England) 16/07/07
Played The Millbrook for the first time recently. We were welcomed in and even though we hadn't booked a time, we were on the tee in 20mins!
I didn't have a course map (missing from the score card) so we had to play blind most of the way round.
It's a tough course, but really enjoyable to play. We didn't take a buggy, but the next time we will! The hill from the 11th tee to the fairway is a real killer if your not having a good round.
There are some real tests of skill here, with shots over gullys on 2 holes. And club selection off the tee on the par 4's is vital, it's not a case of booming drives on every par 4.
Look forward to playing Millbrook again, but with a Buggy!!

I played at Millbrook for the first time a few months ago - and having played it in early season when a few temporary greens were in operation (greens were being sanded/seeded) it was hard to say excactly how it would have played without - though you did get a feel for it from the greens that were in operation.
I believe the Millbrook has the longest first 3 holes on any course in the UK - though the hardest of which in my opinion is the par 4 3rd at 410 yards - the first 2 both par 5's - the first requires a 5-wood off the tee and although intimidating with a gully to the right, you if you get your tee shot away you should make par - the second run alongside another par 5 so you really can land it on either fairway and just bomb it down there as far as possible - from there par should be possible - the 3rd, has trouble off the tee and a very difficult second shot to a small and well protected green.
Millbrook is a nice course, a course which is individual to many others - with many challenging tee shots, though that is where the trouble mainly lies - the greens are relativly flat.
On the downside, I paid £20 for the round (presumably because of the temporary greens) - but when you think its normally £25 - that is too much in my opinion. The tee boxes were very poor and the normal greens were slow, OK it was early season - but they just didnt run like a £25 course. Dont get me wrong, its a very good course - very physically challenging - but if they had greens and tees to match Three Locks or Aspley Guise it would be well worth it - as it is, I'd play at Three Locks!
BTW - the new clubhouse is very nice- but small - and offers a nice view of a number of holes.....

The course is now owned by the members and is back to being called The Millbrook. The course has undergone a number of improvements recently and the clubhouse extension will soon be completed. This will provide much better changing rooms and pro shop. The course plays well all year and the greens are currently in great shape. The course represents good value and is something of a hidden gem.

Millbrook Golf Course is presently under a members buy-out scheme.\r\nThe course has been re-named to LYSHOTT HEATH GOLF CLUB as of May 98. \r\nIt is expected to be a fully private private members club by the end\r\nof March 99\r\nThere are plenty of NEW memberships available for all schemes and any \r\nsuch enquiries should be directed to the Secretary of the Club.
The scorecard previously entered by myself is still correct, however my\r\nemail address has changed to Andy.Wilkinson@eds.com
