Hebden Bridge Golf Club Player Reports
Jorgen Fisher (Ireland) 10/03/08
Hebden is a course that can punish or reward and one that needs to be played a few times to pick your way around and adjust for the extremes of weather from one round to the next. It can be both cruel and kind to the high handicap golfer but a true test for the low men where an acurate tee shot allowing for the terain will reap reward. You will feel that you are a member during your visit and will be made welcome to join in the winter comps, the winter league, which is played on Sundays from Oct to Mar is one on it's own. Tables are assembled as players come in to form one long table and the banter is fantastic. The steward and bar staff are great and the food is great value for money, the chaps make you feel welcome regardless and it's just a really nice atmosphere. Give it a try.

Now here is a 9 hole course that is worth at least one visit simply to sample the unbelievably warm welcome you are guaranteed to receive from the members and staff in the Clubhouse. I would say it is difficult to think of a course where a more laid back and friendly approach exists.
The course itself can be described as compact at best, due to the limited land that is available to the Club. Everything falls towards Hebden Bridge, so all your shots on individual holes tend to be aimed up one side of the fairway to allow it to run back down onto fairway. There are a couple of weak holes, but there are also a couple of very good holes thrown in for good measure. The greens are generally pretty quick, but at times a little bald as can be parts of the fairways, as I think they sometimes struggle to get water to them. The green fees are very fair.
Stunning views on a good day, but you need a good day. If the weather turns nasty, it's not the place to be! But if it does turn nasty, get in the Clubhouse, the locals will look after you!

A 9 hole gem located in the heart of the Calder Valley sat imperiously atop Mount Skip, high above Hebden Bridge town centre. The course is tough and unforgiving, but highly rewarding should you put a decent round together. Even if you don't, the majestic views all around will take your breath away and leave you awe-struck. One of the most stunning courses you'll ever play. The locals are friendly and the ale is real and fine. A must for any golfing CV.

This is a tricky course where the golfer has to hit the greens first time or be in trouble. The view are probably the best in the country - approx 30 miles on a clear day. The club is friendly and welcoming.
