New Forest Golf Club Player Reports

This course is about as far removed from the modern designer grass fairwayed parkland courses as you could get. It is a natural heathland surrounded by scenic New Forest trees. The fairways are mown heathgrass and apart from odd clumps of gorse are wide and forgiving. The course is shared with New Forest ponies which leads to several bizarre local rules about when you can and can't get free drops to remove horse manure from your ball. The ponies also can get in your way when playing. A fairly short course, though several of the par 3s are approaching or over 200yds. When I played the greens were in excellent condition. Friendly pro shop and clubhouse, very welcoming to visitors. It is certainly an unusual golfing experience which as the course card says is "golf as it was intended".

This won't be the toughest time you'll ever have on a golf course, but it's not a bad place to play if you're in the area.
There aren't too many holes that will test the low handicappers, and I think that middle to high HC players will probably enjoy playing here more.
The greens were in a decent condition, and the fairways were okay too, but the bunkers were a little on the rough side. Maybe it's my own fault for going in them though!
It's also the first time ever I've had to decide whether to try and clear the ponies and cattle when picking my club. Fortunately those were hazards I managed to avoid.
Overall it was an okay place to play, but I wouldn't suggest travelling too far for the experience.

Played here on April 1st and thre were 17 temporary greens in operation, so you're best advised to check this out prior to arranging a round.
This obviously made a big difference to the course, and two of the holes are actually closed at the moment. These are the 8th and 9th at the bottom of the course, and to be honest it looked pretty desperate - it was like walking on a muddy football pitch and you wonder whether they will ever really recover.
It's obviously not the clubs fault about the weather, and this obviously makses a big impression on my views of it, but even so it didn't appear to me too much of an inspiring track.
However, putting on temporary greens with holes the size of steering wheels certainly makes your putting stats look good!

Great course; wide open fairways, some interesting holes, including a mammoth par 5 early on... Would echo the remarks about the condition of the fairways and greens: fairways are fairly typical of public commonland courses, but the greens are well kept. This course's main feature is the range of wild animals you'll encounter -- never before have I had to shoo away a pair of donkeys from a tee area!! Also, plenty of New Forest horses add to the scenery.
Overall: good value, entertaining course which I recommend to anyone, and certainly enjoyable for mid to high handicappers like me!

It is a shortish course but very enjoyable and a bargain at £12. There are ponies roaming around which add to the extrenticities of the course. The greens were in good condition and a pleasure to putt on. All in all a great holiday course to be enjoyed whilst not taking life too seriously.
