Played here for the first time last week and had heared all of the rumours about "Bomb Alley", thinking it couldnt be as bad as peoplehad made out... Wronnggggggg!. All in All any course whereas you are walking down the middle of a fairway after hitting a good shot up the middle and have to dodge peoples Tee shots coming straight at you??????? Madness.The course was in great condition and everyone seemed very friendly but i wont be rushing back to play as i have a wife and young family to support. The course was in great condition

Outlane is a course I seem to end up playing a couple of times a year in Club events I agree to enter, and I have to say it isn't one of my favourites.

The greens and fairways are usually in reasonably good nick, but the problem with the place can probably be grasped by the nickname we have given it down the years - "bomb alley".

In short, you are in danger of being hit by people on other fairways on so many holes that you really do have to keep your wits about you all the time. When the course is busy, you tend to rush shots on certain holes because you know you are in the firing line, and to me that just defeats the objective of golf as it takes much of the enjoyment away. A crash helmet may be the best piece of equipment to take out with you.

That said, the eigth hole, its signature hole, a stroke index 1 par 3 (rare indeed!) is a pleasure to play. From memory it's a yard short of 250 yards with out of bounds on one side and trouble down the other! It is one of the few holes you aren't in danger of being hit by stray shots off the tee!

Off course, the catering is usually of a pretty good quality, but I wouldn't say the natives are overly friendly.

Really love the course, I'm a beginner and have played twice at Outlane. Don't think they are very welcoming considering I am a potential future member though. The members, in particular the captain and the secretary were very rude to us and didn't do anything to make me believe that Golf wasn't still stuck in some age old world and only played by the middle classes.

Having said this the course is fantastic I really enjoy the 4th and the 17th. The par 3 8th is very long, not sure I'll ever reach it! Its a lovely spot and I hope next time I go back its a bit more friendly.

If you like playing off sloping lies you'll love this place! The entire course seems to be built on a hillside. A miserable course (one tee box is situated in an adjacent cow field!?), miserable location and the members we encountered were equally miserable. It had one redeeming factor, without doubt the best Sunday lunch I've enjoyed at any course. One to miss - 3/10

I played this course that is easily seen from the M62 Junction 23 on a very windy day 2/10/01. I had been passed on numerous occasions and wondered what the course would be like to play as it looked like it could be interesting. I was not dissapointed.

The welcome was exceptional with both members and officials being friendly and wishing to make our round a success, by providing a course planner without charge.

The course itself has a number of very interesting holes, with some highlights being two short uphill par 3's with tiny greens and very well protected, a 245 yard par 3 that cannot be missed anywhere, and some holes of the region of 300 plus yards that down wind are almost drivable, and the return hole being a good drive and whatever you have in the bag. One short par 4 has a three tier 60yard long green.

Excellent views and some well set out holes in the available land made for an enjoyable round that can be recomended to all.
