Just to clarify a couple of the points in my post and the subsequent one by Neil.
I firstly apologise about confusing the signature hole with the "mickey mouse" hole I referred to.
The signature hole 16th is without doubt the best hole on the course, the mickey mouse hole is the 13th.
As for my comment re the greens, I'm afraid I wholeheratedly stand by them. At the time we played them, they were very poor, and I'm afraid that that was the general concensus amongst the 50 plus that played on the day.

Read the previous report and found it difficult to recognise the course from the observations made.
The course is receiving good comments from everyone who is playing it at the present time and although the bunkers in particular are suffering from the unusually high amounts of rainfall, I am certain that every other course will be experiencing the same problems.
The 4 latest new greens are looking and putting magnificently and I would suggest that the comments re bobbly greens are completely unjustified.
I am also unable to understand the negative comments about the course's 'signature hole' (par 4 16th). The new green is a great design and the drive and approach shot require good technical ability.
The course is well worth a visit and offers extremely good value for money (£25 per round!).
It is obviously very easy to record negative comments and the Club obviously appreciates the right to reply.

Played last week on a Club trip.
The general feeling was that the course had some good holes, but also had some real mickey mouse holes. The par 4 dog leg, which I believe is the signature hole, is nothing short of a joke hole.
The fairways were in pretty good nick, the rough was tough if you went off line. Mature trees also come into play to catch any stray drive.
Bunkers were very bare, hardly any sand in them. The number of times we were ducking for cover to a shout of "fore" with stray tee shots all over the course was too many, and as such I left thinking it was another "bomb alley" course.
The biggest disappointment though was the greens. Very poor indeed. A lot of work has apparently been done on them over recent times, I dread to think what they were like before. Very bare, very bobbly, very poor.
Pro shop was very poorly stocked and what was there was extremely limited at best. Catering was basic but ok.
Not be rushing back to play again.

a menber of the club for 7 years since the age of 11, this is the best i have seen penwortham playing. the new greens have taken superbly and the existing greens are running very true aswell, the dodgy bunkers have been vastly improved over the last winter and are now much better. the course now plays a tough test for any standard of player with the tightness of the fairways and the long rough especially when the wind blows. penwortham is on the up!!

Yesterday i was a competitor of the junior open at penwortham GC, althoughi found the day enjoyable and the course challenging, i was not as impressed with the course as i thought that i would be. Bunkers were not in a very good state and neither were the greens. Unfortunately i will not be returning.

I am a member of 25 years of this club and suffered all their problems, but now this course has completely turned the corner. 6 new greens and markedly improved other 12 greens, this course gets better and better. Drainage has been sorted. Well worth a game. No-one shoots the lights out at this course. Must be straight, all the time.
Clubhouse is the friendliest around.
