I always think you can judge a golf course on two levels. Firstly is it a good challenge well laid out and in tip top condition. And secondly is it a pleasure to play, does it look beautiful etc.

Well Roundhay may not be the toughest challenge (there are a number of short par 4s which are easy to par and quite possible to birdie - i got three birdies the day i was there and was pleased as punch with that, the bunkers are a bit scruffy and the greens no better than average. But for all that the beautiful surroundings full of muture trees slap bang in the middle of Roundhay Park more than make amends.

The stand out hole is the par 4 4th - this one is no short hole, an uphill and on the day i played it into the wind drive followed by another wood and i was still well short. But the second is played downhill towards a magnificent lake and fountain in the park itself. It is quite breathtaking.

There are a few quirky holes, but i like that. My major complaint would be that the signage between holes is not good.

But for all that at a cost of £10.30 for 18 holes it is very very good value. Well done Leeds Council!!

In the height of summer this is as good a nine hole golf course as you will find for under a tenner. The long fourth is a test for any standard of golfer and the greens demand a good putting stroke. Maybe lacking a little too much length to be a true test for the more accomplished player, this is nonetheless a great way to spend an afternoon.

Roundhay was the first full size golf course I played and is still one of my favourites. The 9-hole course offers a deceptive challenge to golfers of all standards form your hacker right up to the next Tiger Woods.

Although Roundhay appears to be a short course it is far from easy to break par over the 18 holes. the sloping par 5 second and the never ending par 4 4th provide a stern test of both distance and having a good short game.

A great value for money course. Challenging for all standards. A sloping par five and a long par four test all players. Holes 6 and 8 allow chances for an eagle as long as the drive is long and accurate. The greens are always in superb condition. The woodland and scenery make this course a real joy to play

Hello it Kevin Rickett again i e-mailed you about a week ago regarding david and eddie the two top most green keepers at roundhay golf course.

I talked about medals going out for the both of them for all the work they do even when it is (pitch black before the golfers get there)

I was thinking would it be possible for the both of them to have a certificate to show how much work they do complete.

I would be most gratefull please if this message could go online many many thanks.

I have just started work at Roundhay golf club after working on the park as a gardener for the last two and a half years.

The two green keepers david and eddie really keep the course in top condition there knowledge in green keeping is out of this world the amount of work that they do is some thing to be seen.

They even get there in a morning still pitch black and do the jobs that need to be done before the golfers start at day break.

well done david and eddie medals go out to the both of you.
