Selected this course to play in July 07 after reading various reviews of a number of local courses. What a drag. The whole experience was mundane and tedious. The course lacked any imagination in its design, until the final 3 holes. Far too many straight holes, the round was quite monotonous. Never have I felt so pleased to walk off an 18th green. The club website describes the 16th as one of the best holes in the county. Well, if that's true, I feel for the good golfing folk of Wiltshire. And without 2F1, their weekend rates are £42. Not value for money.

Having looked into going to play this course for a while. I decided to venture down on a grey june day, armed with my trusty 2-4-1- voucher. I'd played tidworth 10 mins down the road and was hoping for asimilar feel, what i found was a course with more of a links feel. I'll be honest, i'e played courses in better condition but this never detracted from the fact that i was playing a course where the true challenge of it lay in where u placed your ball, a kind bounce can make all the difference as i found out on the 8th.
I found the course was very easy on the eye with some of views across the valley helping take the mind off any stray shots. I would recommend the course if your in the area. The 17th and 18th provide a really great finish. The 18th being a i fiendish par 3. Overall pleased to make the trip down but as one of our 4-ball said, it could do with a woman's touch.

First visit last Sunday and what a course! A real gem with some cracking views over the country. Staff very laid back. Nothing too special about the first hole. The second is very narrow with out of bounds close by on the right, but you cannot go left as I done! Enjoyed the 8th down in the "valley". Enjoyed the long holes and the dog leg 16th. But the finish is the best. You have to be there to see it and to play it. Glorious.

Having played this course when it was a nine hole track, I was very impressed by the new(or maybe not so new anymore!)layout. If you can, I would carry clubs here as the terrain is undulating to say the least - the 18th is a killer! Played this course in late August and found it in A1 condition. The new holes are quite varied and club selection can be tricky when the wind blows. No real 'wonder' holes to speak of but it's a good test. My favourite? Definitely the 16th - long dog leg left with the second played off a hanging lie.
The real plus though are the members - I was made to feel very welcome both in the pro's shop and in the clubhouse.

As a member of Upavon golf club I find it a challenging test of golf. The views of the vale of Pewsey are superb. The members are among the most friendly in the country, and will always make visitors to the club welcome. The club offers a superb pro shop with very helpful staff, ran by the club Pro Richard Blake. The clubhouse offers a variety of food at very reasonable prices, and the bar offers a variety of beverages . So go on - Give us a visit- I'm sure you won't be dissapointed!!

Last year I visited RAF Upavon golf club and played the 18 hole layout for the first time.
In the mid 1960's I was a RAF member of the original 9 hole course and sentimentally missed the old holes.
The 2nd over the valley was a great hole and a good opportunity to collect an early birdie.
I am in agreement with the reporter who identifies the course as "easy" for the better player.
lThat is, on a good day. Let the wind blow and the scene changes.
Harking back to the old sixth, a drive and a 5O yd pitch, when fine. lWhen the wind blew a good drive and a full 5 wood!!
And the rough? Do not venture there!!!
The new course is a credit to the designer. Interesting, well laid out and, of course, very scenic. And it really does take a bad shot to find the hay. Shots do have to be played, and are rewarded accordingly. The best hole is the short one running along the valley floor. A well directed 5 iron should carry to the back of the green _ and will hold.
The greens accept iron shots well but are not slow. Infact they are good paced and encourage an easy smooth putting stroke.
Definitely more of a links like than inland course and a pleasure to play.
The 18th (old 9th) still there. A hard 7 iron or an easy 6 played to carry the green and roll back (in summer) was the shot. And a 2 always looked for. We were extenfded a warm welcome by Les Mitchell and had a truly wonderful day at Upavon. Golf rather rusty though.
Fronm memory my friend, Ian, enjoyed his drink. As it seenms to be a point of interest, he too is a Guinness fan.
All aspects in Upavon's favour and everyone should have a very enjoyable day.
Do not miss it. Don.
