Royal Norwich Golf Club Player Reports
Andrew Lee (England) 04/07/05
Having just moved to the area I am checking out some of the local courses. Work commitments mean that I am only able to play "twilight" rounds however.
The Royal Norwich charges £17 for a twilight round which I thought was a bit expensive at the time but since then I have found that this is similar to what is paid at other courses in the area.
The course itself was very well maintained and was set in beautiful woodland in the outskirts of Norwich. The first 10 holes are accross a main road from the clubhouse and present a challenge to all with some narrow fairways and protected greens. Unfortunately for my score card, local knowledge was essential with some elevated tees and sloping fairways luring in the adventurous... watch out!
The last eight holes are back accross the main road and were probably some of the best holes of golf I have played in a long time.. Picturesque, well tended and challenging.
Of the four courses I have tried around Norwich so far - all of which have been very good - this outshone the rest. If you like a challenge then I can strongly recommend a round at the Royal Norwich.
