I like this course! This is a fantastic links and I thoroughly enjoyed my round, even though I played badly. Because I am a member at Silloth I thought I would do well here but the greens were the fastest I have ever experienced, I think those greenkeepers were laughing to themselves about the pin positions that day, but it didn't detract from a wonderful experience. My favourite hole was the 10th, a short par three called Beck, very picturesque with a quant little bridge with a backdrop of the THORP nuclear reprocessing plant at Sellafield! I also enjoyed the 16th a monster par 4 at 473 yards off the whites.

Clubhouse facilities were good and I got a fair bit of change from a tenner after ordering 4 pints! Friendly people An excellent course that should be visited.

We visited Seascale on Saturday 10th June 2006 as part of a mini break in Cumbria.

After playing at Silloth-on-Solway the day before, we were expecting a slightly easier game. Wrong!

The wind got up and made for a “text book” day of links golf. I hit a par five with a drive and a wedge but on the stroke index 18 hole was only half way there with a drive and a 3-iron!

Make no mistake, Seascale is out of the way and an effort to get to but it is certainly worth every minute of the journey. The course plays on two levels, the first 9 holes are on higher ground but by the time you are walking down the 7th fairway, you can see the classic links land waiting for you on the back nine.

There are some superb holes and in the wind on unstoppable greens, the hardest set of par 3’s you are likely to find. The Sellafield Nuclear Plant stands quietly in the background but was less imposing than I anticipated. Apart from that the setting is superb, all natural with little intervention from man.

Off the course, the Clubhouse has facilities that are second to none, accompanied by a warm friendly welcome and super catering service.

All in all a great days golf and if you make the effort to get to Seascale you won’t be disappointed, or out of pocket.

I was lucky enough to play this lovely genuine and old-fashioned links on a hot summer's day in early July, with little wind. The ball ran a long way, and the greens were outstanding: fast to putt on yet holding a well-struck iron.

The course has a wonderfully natural feel to it. It's well kept, but the rough is wispy and the bunkers look as if they are simply slight enlargements of an area where a small dog might have gone rooting for rabbits.

Especially memorable holes are the 3rd, where you see all the trouble from the tee - a right-angled dog-leg around out-of-bounds to a sunken green; the 14th, a crinkly par 5 that can be reached in two, and the totally wonderful 16th. You get a look at part of this in advance as you play the 15th. The fairway is a ribbon of moonscape, up and down all over the place. You have no idea where the green might be. The circumspect walk forward in search and suddenly discover it in a hollow, 470 yards from the tee, and par four at that! The 17th has a stout tee shot over acres of seething rough up to a cliff-top fairway set at 30 degrees, not unlike the 5th at Appleby, and the last is perilously close to the streets of Seascale, similarly so to the 18th at St. Andrews Old.

I can't wait to get back and spend all day at Seascale.
