our fite 5 society played this course sat 20th may2006 after a full week of rain, the course was in fantastic condition despite all the rain(including the first 6 holes of our round)the fairways were dry(limestone and sand based soil)and the greens were immaculate and superbly drained and arguably the best kept greens i have ever played on.yes there are some up and down hills which leave u tired at the top but much better than a flat course in my opinion, there are also a couple of long walks between tees but nothing too bad.this is a good test of golf and i cannot recommend this course highly enough.not only was the course in great settings and a good challenge of golf but the staff, clubhouse, members we met, food and welcome was first class

After playing 27 holes yesterday for £22 I'm totally knackered!

We play every year and the course was in absolute top condition, the greens were a credit to the greenkeeper and fairways well kept and very enticing. although there are long walks from tee to greens, it's definately worth it. I can usually tear up a course with a long drive, not something you can do on the back 9, as you have to think your way to a good score.

Looking forward to going back next year, might run a marathon to get in shape for it though!

Quite simply the most trying and tiring round of golf I've ever played in my life, to the extent where I'd basically given up by the 16th tee.

If mountaineering or hitting random golf shots to an invisible green atop a crag is your bag, then get yourself there. If a relaxing, easy-on-the-legs round of golf is what you're after - this is not the course for you.

To be fair, the front nine is reasonably pleasant, but the back nine, coupled with a course design which means you're constantly walking backwards and forwards, uphill and down dale, across other fairways, roads and railways, just to reach the next tee makes it a rather uninspiring slog.

On the plus side, the course was in good condition and the views (from the greens/fell tops) are pleasant.

PAUL LALLY (England) 22/06/05

Played this course in May 2005 while on holiday in the South Lakes. The course was great,as it gave me the chance to do my fellwalking and golf simultaneously! When arriving at some of the greens (the 13th in particular if I remember correctly) I almost expected to find a summit cairn rather than a flag! Great fun, but exhausting, particularly as I played 36 holes in one day.I wonder what the incidence of heart attacks among the membership is!

Nice welcome, met a fellow Sheff. Wed. supporter on arrival (shortly before our magnificent triumph in Cardiff).Another member kindly took me round the course-thanks,Paul.

A memorable day out! Try it if you can.

A great little course, although a little to many blind shots for my liking. On the day that I played it the light rough was to long and coupled with the blind shots I lost a couple of balls just off the fairway. The 13th is an interesting hole, about 300 yards but played to a plateau green about 60 feet high!! not many birdies their. This was a 9 hole but was extended to 18 holes a couple of years ago, the new 9 (2 to 10) are settling well. If you have the chance give this course a try.
