South Staffs is a magnificent mature parkland course offering a challange to golfers of all abilities. After a steady start, the 1st being a par 5, the second being a testing par 3 the 3rd and 4th are both par 4's which appear straight forward but can catch you out with errant tee shots leaving you struggling to escape from the trees. The 5th and 6th being par 5 and 3 respectively lead you into the challanging section of the course. There is no doubt that if you are to score well on this course then you must get off to a good start over the first 6 holes. From the 7th to the 14th inclusive all of which are considerable in length and difficulty the only let up is the short 11th which has an elevated green surrounded by bunkers and has OOB to the rear and left hand side. The final four holes being a par 3, a par 5 and two par 4's. The 17th a par 4 of some 390yds is well worth a mention. Too long a tee shot and you run into a very narrow line between two of the many magnificent copses which are in abundance across the course. Too short and you will have difficulty reaching the carefully guarded green which slopes heavily from back to front and is extremely slick when putting down or across the slope. Hit your tee shot left and you will be playing sidewys out of the trees or attemting to lift your ball impossibly over the trees in an attempt to reach the green. Hit your tee shot right and you will find the stratgically positioned bunker, that is if you manage to avoid the OOB lurking behind the trees along the whole length of the right hand side of the hole. Well worth a visit. PS the catering is excellant.
