Springhead Park Golf Club Player Reports

Many years ago when I was a teenager living in Hull, my best mate virtually lived on this course. He was certainly the odd one out in our school...golf?
So on my latest return to my birthplace I thought I'd give it a go. The first thing to note is that it is a municipal and thus you have to make allowances. It is rough around the edges; the greens less than perfect, the bunkers a bit overgrown or under sanded, the ponds silted up etc.
However, that is not to detract from a very interesting experience. It starts with a few very narrow par 4's, not overly long but then you should leave the big stick in the bag otherwise you will be in the trees. In fact trees and doglegs dominate the course featuring on most holes so accuracy is the key. At over 6000 yards and a par 70 it is a good challenge.
The lad said after completing another hammering of his father, "it is an excellent layout and would be superb if put in private hands". But then he doesn't have to fork out the expensive green fees that such a move would demand.
No, there is a place for sensibly priced municipal courses open to all, and Springhead is as decent as they come.

A very popular matured municipal course would set a challange to any golfer. First five holes have severe underlations on the fairways which can penalise a good drive. Greens have recently incorporated a sprinker system which has improved greatly. Holes 8 and 15 very tough par 4s as is the 14th. Very enjoyable golf and the 19th is more than friendly.
