Played here in April. Played the 36 holes and is well worth its reputation!! Played the New course in the morning and it really is a test, but a fantastic one at that. There is heather in play on a number of holes, and off the whites it was a long track, with a number of par 4's over 420 yards. It is immaculate in its appearance. We had lunch in between rounds, which was fantastic, if not a little annoying that you have to put on a shirt and tie.
We then played the Old course and all i can say is, if you ever get a chance then play it. it is spectacular. The morning course was very good, the Old course is sensational. The condition is again first class and there are some great holes to be played. I found it more interesting, with plenty of tree lined fairways, and similar to Wentworth, the local mansions peering over the trees into the fairways. The tenth has to be one of the best driving holes in golf, you feel that you are top of the trees as you tee off.
All round, it is well worth a visit. It is an expensive place, but for a one off, i couldn't recommend it enough!

Played both courses on 15 August 2007. Both are stunning, the New being predominately heathland and the Old lined with oak and pine. The heather was in full bloom. Although the New is slightly tougher I would have to give the Old the nod as the better of the two tracks simply because of the views. You simply could not find two better inland courses anywhere in the UK (except perhaps the Kings at Gleneagles). If you ever get the chance to play them don't be put off by the green fee.

Like St Andrews, the Old Course is the more famous yet the New offers more of a challenge apparently. Played the New in early April and thought it was fantastic. Members were polite to us, although you do need to mind your P's & Q's like any private club like this. All staff friendly. Wouldn't have minded a caddy but at £35 per round (plus tip!) didn't think it was worthwhile. The only other thing I can say is that most golfers remember the first time they teed it up on an 18 hole golf course as a hacker with no handicap, well remember how nervous you felt and how you could feel all the eyes watching you - this feeling suddenly takes over again! It doesn't matter how long you've played the game, playing somewhere like this turns you into the quivering wreck you were when your Dad first took you down the local Municipal! Fantastic experience, one of the world's great inland courses.

Only managed to play the New Course, new being a relative term given it dates back to 1922. A superb golfing experience. Immaculately maintained and laid out course. However it could turn into a golf scoring nightmare if you struggle off the tee, or can't keep your approaches straight, as the heather in front of the tees and either side of tight fairways leaps up to grab you club as you try to swing through it. Excellent value as a golfing treat.

This is a brilliant golf club with the best 36 holes of golf around. The club is very tradional but the new locker rooms are great. Once you get on the course it just blows you away. The Old is prettier than the New but the New is arguably the tougher of the two. Both are great fun to play and well worth the £140 day ticket.

Pure Class! A finer course you're unlikely to find.
The Clubhouse is a gourgeous old Mansion house split into different rooms for visitors and members and societies. You even get separate changing rooms.
Beautiful practice putting area, which I suggest you use, because the greens here are well looked after and are fast!
The New course is beautifully manicured, tree lined and has pockets of gorse and heather to make things difficult. The bunker placements are perfect making this the more difficult of the 2 courses.
The Old course is simply stunning. I certainly would not say it is the most difficult of courses, but you will lose shots and the near impossible to read greens.
The 2 courses intersect at the 10th where you can stop at one of the nicest halfway huts for a brief stop and refreshments. Don't be brave, stop, relax and enjoy the most sumptuous surroundings of any golf course you'll play
